Racks/heat tape

Hi,

I just built a couple of racks and am waiting on heat tape. In the meantime I'm just wondering what your experiences have been.

I have 1 rack that's got 16x24x6 bins, and the other has 16x36x6 bins. For the 16x24s, I plan on running 11inch heat tape down the back wall. For the 16x36 ones, I plan on running a foot of 11inch underneath the back third of each.

Does that sound good? Also, in these size of tubs, have you found that heat tape at the back or under the back third raises the ambient temp inside at all? I'm a bit worried about what the cool side will be as it's usually about 75 in my room.

Thanks!

Hey

I built the 10 High racks that ballpython.ca has (Mark).

I ran the tape along the back of the units, only to realize that this did not create the amount of heat I wanted in the back of the cage. My room is the low 70's also, and I could only get it to go up to about 80 or so (Dimmer at full).

So, I just got in more Flexwatt, and I put 1 foot under each cage at the back......and now I can create the gradient I want (93 and 83).

It's akmost twice as expensive because you use 10 feet of 11" tape instead of 6....but well worht it.

I have heard many people that run it down the back have no roblem at all.....but I think this is largely dependent on the room conditions. I have my snakes in my office, and the power I already draw makes it impossible to put a space heater in here to oncrease room temp.....blows the breaker every time

Hope this helps.

Rob

Hmm. I'm definitely gonna go that route with the 36" rack. I'll wire up the 24" rack up the back for now and see how it goes but I may have to convert it to belly heat as well. The space heater isn't really an option for me right now either.

Thanks for the info. If the back heat doesn't work for the 24" rack I may just pickup some of that heat tape your selling.

Also, I happened to see your name on the Fauna Classifieds forum. You wouldn't happen to have owned pinnacle would you?
