Can you guys give me some tips on how to take some good pics with my digital camera?

Know it very well, thats all I can say really. Read the book and know all the features their is. Then take it out and take as many pics as you can to get a feeling for the focus, light effects, and all that stuff.

Its digital so take tonnes of pictures, and take notes on what works and what doesn't. The great thing about digital is that you can get instant feedback and make the changes that you need until it works. Remember always make sure the eyes are in focus.

The easy answer...study photography.

What area of photography are you thinking about? Landscape? Portrait? Reptile Macro?

Lighting is important and a built-in flash is far from the best source of light. It's just too close to the lens. If you can get a good light source that is away from the lens, the subject will look better.

A tri-pod or some form of support will help you get sharper pictures. Especially if you can fire the camera without touching it.

As mentioned...know your camera inside & out. Know it's capabilities and it's limits. Take lots of shots and check them out right away...that's the beauty of digital.

Kevin, almost all of your pics I've seen look like they were taken with a web cam or else a cheaper digital camera (not an insult ). If you EVER want to take better pics, you will need a better camera. Maybe not anything too exepnsive just something better.

Web cams don't always take bad pix... my avatar photo was taken with my bro's webcam a couple of years ago, and I think it's pretty good!

As for cam tips, all the above advice is pretty much what I would tell you anyways, especially about the flash. I prefer natural lighting outdoors, and overcast days are much better than sunny days (less or no harsh shadows). Just get to know your camara and see what happens! =)
