Plants for a python?

Hey,

I've got a coastal carpet python, in a 44 gallon glass enclosure. At the moment it's pretty bare, just a rock, pebble subtrate, and a log. I was wondering what types of plants could I put in? Or should I just got with fake plants? Also I saw some pics with moss covered rocks, they looked really cool, would that be possible in a snake enclosure?

Thanks,
h0nk

You need plants that can survive the "tough love" these snakes dish out as they move about. For live plants, pothos is a good choice. Myself, I prefer fake plants as they can be disinfected and thoroughly cleaned.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, get rid of the pebble substrate and do your snake a HUGE favour.

I think I'll go with the fake plants, thanks for the replies. Whats wrong with the pebbles? It's not completely covering the floor, only about half of it, he doesn't seem to mind it? It has a heat pad underneith keeping the pebbles warm.

the pebbles could be ingested during feeding causing impaction and possibly death. go with newspaper, aspen, or bark mulch.

Nah, the pythons only a hatchling, and the pebbles are 40mm large size, I don't think he'll manage to get one of them down. I always feed him up the other end away from the pebbles anyway (easier to clean).
