Smile Rough Scale babies ,my first sand boas of 04

Above, gravid female a few days before birthing.
A large piece of bark was removed from over her for this photo. The thermometer pictured is a remote transmitter type. The base station is also an alarm clock so
I can check that temp bedside, via radio signal
I have several of these in with gravid boas and in incubators. they are very handy for monitoring several temps without actually going here.

late last night, mere minutes after the birth, the female still seen contracting(above)

10 healthy conicus pups, no slugs, no stills.. my biggest litter of this species to date.
They are always born in opaque, and don't look their best until they shed

Timing?you mean luck...sometimes, but it's just experience this time.. I noticed her "panting" early in the evening so I knew she was starting the pre delivery process. Many boids will have increased breathing and heart rate which is noticeable just before contractions start. She was also out and above her bark for the first time in over a month. My conicus also always give birth in the mid to latter part of June, so I knew she was about due. The signs are subtle but there are often clues that birth is imminent.

Hey wildOats.... You're not asking me to actually weigh snakes are you?? thats for you young'ens LOL
I have to get my act together I guess... I never weigh snakes as back when I was establishing habits, there weren't anything but innaccurate fish scales. These handy dandy electronic jobs didn't exist other than in the labs at MIT
She's just about as big as she looks in the picture...Hows that for a useless answer.
Tell you what, check back here tonight... I'll pull out the tape, and that new scale thats still in the box, and give you some stats.

Ok sweet pea, just for you: the female post birth is 285 g 25 inches
Babies are 12-16 grams
entire litter weighs 143 grams
so presumably the female was about 428g pre birth

My adult males
100 to 106 grams
17 inches max
