Question Humid hide

Woke up this morning and seen in my corns enclosure that he has had an almost or a complete shed. Everything was there but a little patch on the top of the head (seen on the skin). So I checked him and the top of his head looks like it had shed fine.

But he is still in hid humid hide which is really doesn't use unless he's coming into shed. Is it fine to leave the hide in there if he likes it or would this be a bad idea? Also, why would he still be there if he had shed? Could it be that little patch is still attached to his head?

Thanks
Shane

I find that mine love humid hides too, but I take them out post shed. I don't know from experience but others on here have said that too much time spent in a humid hide can cause scale rot or something.

Mine has a tendency to use the humid hide after she's shed as well, when she finally realizes it's there

If he hangs out in the hide a lot, that means he's comfortable in there. Why remove it just because the shed's done? What's the harm in having another hiding place for him?

About the scale rot - I'm sure someone will wander past and correct me if I'm wrong but scale rot generally occurs from *wet* conditions not humid. It's not about how much moisture they have access to it's more about giving them the opportunity to dry off.

I *think* that they can get it from staying in to humid of conditions for to long, and of course from being in filthy cage.

Permanent high humidity conditions in the enclosure can not only potentially cause problems with a corn snake, but also the environment it lives in (mold growth, etc.) You can easily provide a non-humid extra hide if they wish for times when they are not in a shed cycle.

I'm not sure just how much a humid hide raises the ambient humidity (probably depends on the size of the tank, ventilation, the hide itself) but I'm wondering if a snake given the option of a humid hide vs. the rest of the enclosure at all times (drier) would be okay. I don't know if they would encounter high humidity in certain parts of the ground, etc in the wild and use them under normal circumstances. Interesting.
