No one is forcing you to post on these forums.. It is your decision to do so.. But when you don't get the answers you want to hear, there is no need to fly off the handle.. It's obvious to me that everyone that has replied has had the same concern, the well being of the turtle.. As stated, if you want a turtle so bad, go out and buy a CB one rather then collecting from the wild populations.. It's funny, you were the one who started a thread about us needing conservation, well, collecting animals from their natural habitat is hardly conserving the wild population, don't you think????

Agreed, WC are HARD to switch over to mainstream food anyway. I tried the catch and keep, but i could help but feel sorry for the little guy. CB ar born in rubbermaids and thats all the know, and are quite comfortable for them, while a WC may remain highstrung, Nervous, and defensive. I would release him.

BTW at 4:11pm you said:

'After doing some research i found him to be a cooter! He is 10 inches long. Hes so precious. Does anyone have any information on keeping them? I plan on having him in a 50 gallon pond.'

Then at 4:21 you said:

'I know alot of information on turtles, and i have done my re-search on him, hes doing great... '

*WOW, I wish i were that good with my herps.......*

THEN at 4:43 you said:

'You have no idea! I have done my research, hes being treated for parasites'

*DANG, I wish i lived that close to my herp vet!*

Dont you see that the info you are giving us just doesnt line up?!?!?!?

WWC....you must have know the response you'd get from this site....we are all animal lovers...he are here to talk about husbundry and care and breeding of reptiles....if you go through the forums here on feild herping you'll never read about anyone doing more then catching to photograph them.

Turtles are in my oppion are the most abused pet in this trade...people like Matt, marisa, Darren, Incictus, dani , doen and myself are working hard to make this hobby and site the best it can be....no ones mad at you (we are trying to educate you)

by looking at the dates and times of your post it looks like you caught him on the 7th and by the 8th you have already read everything you need to know and have started treated for parasites....with what....where did you get.....

If i sound like a "!@@" thats fine.....prove it...and i will start a new post to apologize to you......

this is amjor problem....taking wild animals out of natural environment.....think how many females could that one male breed with in a year.....how many off spring would result and perhaps even make to be his age........

Seriously friend, let it go - leave the wildlife in the wild - ALWAYS!
In your user info, you have cited conservation as your interest; what you are doing is the opposite of conservation. Granted professionals take animals out of the wild for captive propagation programs for animals that are at risk, but this animal is not yet at risk and (if I am wrong, correct me) you are not a professional. As an aside, a big reason said animals become at risk is because of "poachers" removing them from the wild.
My interest is in the turtle, you'll have to forgive me if you take this as a personal attack.
You had mentioned this statistic in a previous post:
Quote:
*Every day more than 5,000 animals are killed from poching.
Granted, you have not killed the animal yet, but you are effectively killing it in that you have removed it from the wild and eliminated all possibility of future reproduction and propagation of the species by this individual.
You may argue that "it's only one turtle" but I am sure that's what every individual poacher says; collectively, however, you can see how we reach that number of 5000.
Please let it go....
Regards,
Ryan

Out of curiosity, does anyone know the laws for collecting in Texas and the bylaws for collecting in Texarkana?

What I'd like to know is how is it being treated for parasites? what's the dosage you are giving it? what drugs? where did you get the info to give these dosages? Are you sure thats the right dosage for that species? are you treating it for the parasites that it has or are you just doing a shotgun approach? If the former how did you find out? can you tell me what it eats? what's the latin of this species? What ph level should the water be at? do you have it's water filtered? does this turtle need a dry area to bask in? how often are you changing the water? is it male or female?

You said you did your research, so you should know the answers to the above questions.

If you love it let it go, if it's a WC then it will be happier that way. There is no way you could provide for it the way nature provided for it before.

You stated in your signature "i'm starting over, don't reveal" well how many other user names do you have, and why were you banned or kicked off in the first place?

I believe he started out as BallPython13, then he got banned, then came back as reptile171 or something. All he ever posts is crap like this......

Your not too smart either. You have revealed in a previous thread that your name is Landon Cowling, your 14, and live in Texarcana Texas.

http://www.ssnakess.com/forums/showt...ghlight=Landon

Now you tell us that you have illegally captured a wild native animal. Anyone could call your local Fish and Game or whoever would handle this sort of thing, let them know that you have illegally captured and kept a native species, and you would probably land yourself a hefty fine. LET THE TURTLE GO LANDON. THERE ARE PLENTY OF PET SHOP TURTLES OUT THERE!

And you are a disgrace to your username:

I care alot about the animals, you dont tell me how i feel, you know nothing about me!
I can't say that I know how you feel or much about you at all but I do KNOW one thing, you can't possibly truly care for that turtle if all you want is to keep it.

It is the cruelest thing you can do, take an animal from the wild and make it suffer a life of captivity. This turtle has known a very nice life up till the moment you took it home... Even if you gave it the best of conditions it will NEVER compare to it's life in the wild where it is supposed to be.

As humans we are already selfish enough in playing God and controlling the lives of the animals we choose to keep as CB. Taking an animal from the wild for reasons other than to help the species by professionals is SUPREME selfishness!

If you cared even a BIT about that turtle, you would run to put it back where you took it.

In your user profile doesnt it say under interests "Conservation". A little conflicting in my opinion. Your not really conserving but taking away for your benefit.

i think your right. I feel sorry for the little bugger (the turtle) if he does.
Just hoping that he will set him free again.

I would not be surprised if somewhere there in Texas there is some sort of shelter or animal rescue operation where you could find yourself a turtle to adopt.
no need to take one out of the wild and eventually have it end up back in the wild or into a shelter as there's already plenty of turtles that need homes!
