URGENT HELP NEW baby just hatched!

OMG, so guess what, Crested Geckos DO retain sperm! i bought the female October 18th, she did not lay the eggs until December 29th, and tonight i have a new baby. the other one died i think he suffocated, poor thing. i had seen the eggs oozing, so i tried to see what was going on, and the baby just popped out. then he opened his mouth wide and bounced. What do i do? i have a small critter keeper that fits inside the other tank, and i have blocked the view of baby and mom, so they cannot see each other. but he'll get the lighting and temps he needs, i hope. i gave him water in a babyfood dish. Does this sound ok? will he eat right away or will he have to shed first? is there anything i should be aware of? EEEk! i am so darn excited that i checked the eggs RIGHT before he hatched. I actually was wondering if there was any baby in those eggs. OMG he is so small! he could fit on a quarter, but his tail would hang off. if i knew how, i'd post a photo, but if anyone wants to see, i can email you a photo. ctroiani@direcway.com

lol, you must have scared the crap out of the little bugger if he put up a display like that... lol. Don't worry too much about him, just make sure he has a place(s) to hide, good humidity, shallow water dish etc. Most won't go after crix for the first few weeks but you can try babyfood and if you're lucky cgd after a few days. Keep us updated, and if you want to send me a pic I would be happy to post it for you.

Oh, and put the critter keeper outside of the tank. Just in case...

he has lots of fake leaves and a babyfood jar lid as a water dish. He is so tiny, there is no way i can find pinheads that small. i gave babyffod and cgd mixed with extra water last night, just in case, and i'll keep offering it to the wee one. he is so cute. I have the critter keeper secured, but i need to keep it in there so he gets the lighting which keeps things at the right temps (71farenheit) the cardboard is thick and mom and baby cannot see each other, so the baby won't stress. i make sure to keep everything secure in there, and have made sure that mom cannot tip it over if she climbs on it. mom is very shy, so i don't think she will be a problem. i am misting him every few hours, my house in general is dry, b/c we have forced hot air heat pump system. so that is another reason to keep the kritter keeper in the tank. it will stay more humid. thanks. i cannot send a pic without your email address, so you can email it to me at ctroiani@direcway.com thanks for the offer to post it for me.

Hi Colleen....I thought I would mention this just in case it wasn't something you were doing.....when offering the baby food just put tiny drops on the end of his nose and he will lick it off - maybe use an eye dropper to do this. I always start my babies off on this method. Also make sure the baby food is pure, no tapioca starch and fillers. Good luck.......Andrea.
