I would figure an umbilical cord would not 'have' to connect to the belly, whereever if did connect would still create access to the circulatory system and leave a scar at the location. as far as animals that can see behind themselves, I supposed it would have to depend on how you defined behind, if limited to 180 degrees from front center or anything beyond 90 degrees from front center.

Check out this link, it validates or invalidates about 6 of the "truths".

I know someone who doesn't have a belly button. It's from surgery though. He was born with one but doesn't have it now.

Good thing I don't believe everything I read. I've seen a million lists like this, and most of them contain just enough real info to be credible, but at least half are bull**t.

OK heres my 2 cents on why it might be true ... I was just watching a medical show about a lady in Africa that had an ultrasound of her baby when she was aprox 8 months along. They found that the baby was living outside the womb attached to the liver for the blood supply needed. There was no ambilical cord there at all I think that she was attached in and around the shoulder area so that might explain it. She was born by c section a healthy 6. something pounds. This is only happeneds 2 or 3 times a year around the world they were explaining.
Hope that helps a little Ill try to find it somewhere in the net for ya all it was pretty cool

I checked out some things on the missing Hitchcock belly button, it seems that he was born with one but due to many surgeries it was just sewn up.
