gassy Blood
Well as most of you have read i acquired a Sumatran Blood from a friend jwsporty (jim) Well i was told that this snake farts sometimes. Well he's in my living room and i can certainly tell you all, that he farts quite a bit. I though perhaps it was a strange noise he was making through his mouth, but after a night of watching it is deffinatly gas.. I just found it wierd as none of my other snakes do this at all or if they do it is quietly. lol it's too funny my dad was over and heard a noise he asked what it was i was like ohh that's just Precious fartting ....lol...has anyone else noticed this with their Bloods?? or any other snake?

Hehehe... you should see it Laura-Lee. He lifts his tail, and he looks like he's about to crap on the bed, but he just lets a ripper go, and goes on his merry little way. I've been in the herp room a couple of times, and heard him from inside his rubbermaid... lift the lid, and the paper towel is bone dry, but the SMELL.... UGH! Could make a skunk's eyes water! hehehe

Lmfao I know it all to well Ken. I staked out her enclosure just to be sure what was going on. She does the exact same thing. lol. you don't notice a smell all the time but when you do OMG run for the hills cuz it sure is nasty..lol..Well i'm just glad to hear that someone else has experienced this cuz i've talked to others and they have told me NO way that does not happen, well i have living proof that it does. It's the sounds though that crack the kids and i up at night. The poor dog though was getting blamed when i would smell it. lol and he wouldn't even be near the tank ..lol Poor Dingo dog at least we know it's not him all the time..lol

LOL that's so funny...
I have a question though, could this be a cause from something not being right. Like a parasite, or possibly a genetic problem. Just wondering because i've never heard of a snake farting.

I would worm him with fenbendazole. Excess gas like you describe is definitely not normal. I've had good success treating conditions like that with dosages of 100mg/kg; once and then again in two weeks.

Snakes don't naturally "fart". Atleast not in my experience anyways. I have had snakes that "fart", however, it is usually casued by either a parasite problem or a bacterial problem. I'd worm him with Panacur and Flagyl and if that doesn't cure the problem bring a fecal sample into your vet and have them run it for parasites and bacteria. They can culture most things from a fecal sample.
