Internal parasites:

I'm looking for the dosage amounts of certain medications specifically designed to kill internal parasites. I will need the dosage amount for various sizes of ball pythons and certain rattlesnakes. If anyone knows where I could find a chart, or the like, please let me know.

I'm also looking for a recommended brand of medication. I've used Panacur and Flagyl in the past, but I'm always looking for a better solution.

All help will be greatly appreciated.

Dustin

i would go to a vet. i don't think any of us are trained professionals, and it seems like things like that are better (and more safely) found out after an actual examination of the snakes in question.

Panacur - 100mg/kg. Worm once and then again in 2 weeks

Flagyl - 100mg/kg. Worm once and then again in 2 weeks (minimum dosage of twice and maximum dosage of 3 times)

Droncit - 20 to 30mg/kg. Wormed once and then again in 2 weeks.

I worm all new animals with Flagyl and Panacur.

I also use those dosages that corey recomended and have never had a problem. i wouldn't treat anything other then flagyl and panacur unless you have had the animal tested by a vet or are knowledgable enough to spot other internal parasites, like tapeworms with which you would treat with droncit. etc...

Look around for a good medical book Dustin, sounds like you would really enjoy it and it would surely come in handy.

I don't even treat with Panacur except under a vet's guidance. There are a number of nematodes that are becoming Panacur-resistant because of blanket treatments that expose the worms to Panacur at non-lethal doses. Dosage is dependent not only on the weight of the animal, but also on the type and load of the parasites. Giving too little can be worse than not treating at all because the meds will no longer be effective.
