pitcher plant(sarracenia purpurea)

Has anyone been able to sustain this plant in a vivarium and if so where did yo buy it?....I'll post some pics of it when I find some goodies! Its an awesome carnivorous plant. I've never seen anything like it.

this is what the whole plant looks like....the leaves are shaped like pitchers which collect water....they also have hairs on the inside facing down and when a bug falls in it is trapped and the plant absorbs nutrients from it.....what a vicious way to die!!!lol

they do grow in the wild in North America but it is illegal to cut them, here in Canada anyways. If there is anyone that grows and sells them I would buy them for sure.

They are native right here in Ontario, and can be found in marshland in the Kawarthas. They usually live in or near peat bogs. My parents cottage is near Minden, and there these plants are fairly common up there.
I wasn't aware they were protected in Ontario, but its possible I guess.
I've kept them, and would consider them easier to keep than Venus Fly traps... They need lots of light and of course must be wet all the time
Sundews are also Native to Ontario.

thanks Uncle Roy...I've seen them too in the wild in Tobermory...the family cottage is right next to a conservation area that has an acidic bog so they are everywhere......I'm racking my brain trying to remember where I heard or read about their status...I may be mistaking it with the fact that you can't take them from the conservation area but other areas are o.k. I'm going to look into it because I'd love to have a vivarium full of these glorious plants.

All of the pithchers (i think maybe all carnivorous) are cites. International shipping seems pretty damn hard, but there are TONS of them in the states. Do a search, you'll find every species and hybrid imaginable.
