Need help- not sure what else to do

First, this isn't a cheap ploy to get people to look at my classified ads.
I individually posted my 4 snakes, which I need to sell because I’m moving. Other than posting info about the snakes and a pic, is there anything else I can do? I need to sell them relatively quickly, and I found out that my “last resort” home for them is probably not the best place for them after all. Are there any tips or hints any of you can give me? I was hoping to have them in new homes by the end of the month, but I really REALLY need to have them out by the 2nd week of Oct.

I may be doing myself a disservice by saying this, but I would rather find them a honest to goodness good home more than just selling them for a pretty penny to anyone. I have gotten a couple responses where people are more than happy to “take them off my hands for me” but I am having a hard time believing that everyone will give them a good home- that some people are just looking for a free pet. Am I being too much of a over protective mother, or do I need to simply suck it up and just sell/give them already?

Please help, time is moving really fast.

as for being over protective i would have to say you are not being to harsh as the seller you have the option and if you dont feel theese people can provide a suitable home then it is in your best interest not to sell the snkes to them. Asfor tips i dont know as i have never sold anything in the classifieds i hope this helps

I work for a large company and we have our own internal classifieds. I posted the 4 snakes there too and this guy called and told me that his brother has a 9 ft ball python that eats live rabbits and he thinks it would be cool to put the colombian boa with it. ?!?!?!?!
And then he continued to ask me how large my burm will get—his response was “coooooooool!” I wanted to hang up on him, instead I silently “lost” his phone number.

As a seller I feel you have every right to be over protective of the snakes. They're yours, and you can sell them to whom ever you wish.
If you don't feel they will go to a good home then don't give them to that person.

you might try other boards in addition to this one. If i lived in the usa i'd be contacting you, but I don't

I think that part of your problem might be that this is, for the most part a Canadian site, 'cept for a few Americans. Canadians really aren't going to deal with our neighbours south of the border for a cheaper snake due to CITES paperwork, shipping costs and such. Maybe you should post on one of the other, American-based classified forums. Good luck.

Sadly enough, the best way to move snakes fast is to chop the prices right down. It can be difficult ensuring that your snakes go to the best homes unless you actually know the people, and the lower the price the more idiots seem to be attracted... its sort of a catch 22

As soon as the snake leaves your hand ...well, it's on it's own...you can never know, but the only place you will have some idea of how it will be treated is to post it in a classified on a snake/reptile community such as sSnakeSs.com.....remember most people don't know ***** about reptiles...here at least they have a slight idea on husbandry...lol

You have every right to be protective......if you had snakes that stayed small I would be glad to provide a good home. I would be glad to take them all (even though I don't know what they are! lol) But as of now I don't have the financial situation to care for any more than I have. I would be glad to "babysit" to until I could get the snakes to you in Hawaii if you wanted. But we can't

I hope you find good homes for them...I really do. And believe me if I were closer to you I would help find good homes. Look up snake rescues in your area. Maybe they can help you find a good home for your babies....

Snakes are illegal in Hawaii, this is the reason she cannot bring them with her

well i know this might sound bad but i would help u out if u couldnt find anyone that u trust. i have a columbian boa constrictor and 2 coastal carpets and i could easily house one or 2 of your snakes other then the burm that i dont feel i could take proper care of all i would need help is all the paperwork that would be need to do and i would pay for the shiping if it was in the price of the snake here. but i know this wont happen because u will find a perfect home down there just wanted to let u know if all else failed

Paperwork to ship boids across the border often takes months, sometimes even more than a year. Even is she couldn't find a home, it wouldn't be a feasible plan as she needs to move them by the end of the month

(Sorry so long- I’m a pro at rambling)
Thank you all for responding. I work at Pfizer in the Veterinary Medicine Pharmaceuticals Discovery dept. (No, I don’t get free viagra, I work in the administration area, and I already tried to get free rats- unsuccessfully) There are tons of animal lovers here, but they are more familiar with the furry friends than scaly. I was told to get in touch with this guy Ed who has been a reptile keeper forever. He said that he has a friend who is a herpetologist at the Science Center of CT (museum) and that he thought that they would want my Hogg Isle in their reptile exhibit. (I love the idea of my snake being a little superstar in an educational exhibit!) He called me back this morning and said that the museum couldn’t take her, but instead he would offer to baby-sit 2 of my snakes for 5 years. He’s doing some sort of research/study on urban islands being stuck in cities and the effects/results it produces. He thinks that the colombian boa and hogg would be great examples.

I have talked to this guy several times- he knows his stuff, has room, supplies, proper husbandry from other snakes that he’s had, everything. Being that he said “babysit”, I don’t expect $ from him. (eventhough I think he would have better access at gaining free rats at work than I.) I feel good that 2 of my girls will have new homes this Friday, however, there is still the unsettling feeling that I won’t have them for 5 years, and you never know what will happen in that frame of time.

I think I am going to have a hell of a time with my burm….

Where are you located in the US? I am also a moderator at Redtailboa.net. We have a large network of rescuers all over the US, who would be willing to take the snakes and place them in good homes. Remember, we do this alot, so we know who is OK and who is not. I would suggest you post them on our website. You have to post a pic of any animal that is for sale or adoption. About the burm, I suspect you're right about having a hard time, we get alot of burm rescues, and they take a little longer to place. How big is it? What sex is it? I know some people who may be willing to tkae it, depending on your location. Go here and check out our forums, we are mostly US members, and we could probably help you out.

Since the hogg and the colombian seem ot have a home, I still have a 4 ft ball python- which I have a potential buyer (good guy)

but he needs his wife's permission first.

Our burm is a female who is probably a good 50 inches long, eats f/t rats, and is super sweet. I live in Groton, CT which is pretty much located in the southeast corner of CT. I'm going to go check out that site now....
