Oh my God, he's broken every bone in my hand

Anyone else notice that BCIs are either the worlds strongest snakes or for some reason feel the need to squeeze like mad while being handled? Mine is very calm and seems curious but my God I swear he's trying to juice the marrow out of the bones in my hand.

Hera, our 2 year old female, is really bad for that. And she's just holding on for security, I'm sure. If she was mad or nervous, I'm sure I would be typing one-handed right now.

Well mine are both different my female never latches on and is content to just hang out with me. My male on the otherhand is very quick to grab tight and hold on for all the marbels. She goes back in the enclosure with no probs and he is just a pain to get back in (snake bag or it is no go) The neonate I have(male ) prefers to bite and hiss and really does not care one way or another just plain mean .

MouseKilla,
my Guyana is half the size of my burm and twice as strong when holding on! I think that has to do with the fact that they are climbers...my ball pythons and burm. hold so weakly, if I don't help them out they would fall off!

It may be that they just tend to use more force. I find that my BP just lays across my hands but I can tell when she takes prey that she COULD squeeze the life out of my hand if she decided to. I'm not sure whether it is a question of temperment or some other more biological reason such as that they more frequently climb than a lot of other large snakes.

My BP will sometimes latch on and squeeze, esp. if I'm walking around. It is always amazing to me how much force that small body can generate.

yup, it's good to keep that strength in mind when we handle them when they get to be full grown monsters. These guys can over power your hands at 3 feet, imagine the power at 8.

At 8 feet, I think they've been determined at 5000 psi of power in their squeeze, or something like that. I'll try to find the stats if I can.

Good God that's a lot of pressure! Any idea what an average man could generate or even an exceptionally strong one? Personally I don't lift anything unless I have to for money and the one thing I do squeeze I squeeze gently for pleasure so I wouldn't be a good compairison I don't think. haha

Yeah boas definitely kick pythons a$$ in terms of strength. They are nuts. LOL... take a BRB though... thank the world they don't get to be the size of a BCI! Those guys have a serious death grip!

One of my ball pythons is very strong as well. Everytime we feed him as soon as the rat gets within his range he strikes VERY hard sending blood everywhere...and when he wraps it up you can hear bones crack and such...All this seems to happen in about 1/10th of a second
