The problem i find with old punk bands in the lack of technical talent and most of the clash's music is very time and area specific
As in the huge lack of employment in the u.k. in the 80's and riff's are based on basic chords and i cant stand the regge they do
The ramones also use a few basic chords and have mostly short simple songs But music is all about prefrence what you like is what you like and thats it

punk wasn't about talent..
it was about rebelling against society and wrecking stuff up and find a place in society in their own little 'groups' non-comforing to the mainstream standards. they didnt care for talent.. good ol' punk rock 'n roll.. i mean look at the misfits... easy easy songs just the same chords over and over.. but none the less fun.. and enjoyable... i myself do enjoy talent.. i'm more into metal.. and prog rock and that stuff.. but older punk.. with exceptions of newer punk bands sounding punk rock 'n roll.. are good ok i dont think i made sense but oh well.. \m/ rock on \m/

I used to listen to punk and at the same time rap music, weird eh. There is so many different types of music I can relate to I m not going to listen to one type. I can't stand these punk bands now all they do is wine about how there girlfriends left them. Punk is about freedom and destroying the system, being a social out cast these punk bands have the same message as the BackStreetBoys. Yet I am not going to single out punk, rap now has the worst message its all about clubs, sex, cars, money, drinking etc. My two favourite artists is Lil Dap (rapper) and Neil Young, how is that for musical diversity.

well yeah propagandhi have some talent.. they have some metal influence and i agree there are punk bands that have talent.. look at afi.. im a huge fan.. they do have talent.. and i know they could branch out so much more but it seems like they just hold back.. if you've seen beyond the scene footage of their make of sing the sorrow.. jade just rockin' out on the side.. he's good.. .. but yeah.. lots of punk bands aren't about talent and the same riff over and over is boring.. but sometimes they do have some catchy ones that arent i found the misfits pretty catchy and i didnt get bored of their repeatative riffs.. older misfits.. when danzig wrote the songs.. and what not.. plus other punk bands.. but i know what you're getting at bryce.. ok.. i ramble too much.. i should stop :| don't read this.. DONT READ THIS!

Who? What? Huh? I have no idea who most of those bads are. I didn't even know Good charlotte existed until they accepted their award at Mtv. Oh well but if you like it listen to it if you don't....then don't. It's all about individualizm, different people like different things. It's all good (except country!) I will download some of this stuff so I can give a educated opinion. haha

Lol you should have put the dont read this at the top and it would have made me read it faster LOL
Propagandhi has quite a bit of talent I didnt realize it untill i got a hold of the tab's many of the chords were made up by the lead singer of the band. They also dont really sound like anyone else I have heard.
Good charlotte and mest and the *new* gob sound damn near the exact same i Abosutely HATE it when bands change there style in order for it to go on the radio. metalica WAS Fricken Amazing untill they started changing to make the big bucks and the last album was iffy it sounds like every other drop D inspired band. But people will choose what they like and i am not going to infringe on there right to like it

KING DIAMOND!!! zakk wylde/ozzy 'n pantera.. well i like plenty of others of course.. but yeah.. metallica still rock hard for guys in their 40's.. best concert i have EVER seen and will EVER see.. well metallica and cradle of filth!
unlike most ppl.. almost everyone.. i like the new metallica album... they are one band that has been awesome and has changed every album.. i mean look at slayer.. you heard one album you heard'em all.. every album of theirs sounds the same.. i dont like bands that cant change to something a tad diff at least :|

oh yeah and as much as i hate to say this..
i think Sum 41.. yes.. Sum 41 could have some talent if they got out of that pop "punk"(?) garbage they play.. i mean the metal covers they do.. they do the songs some justice.. they play'em a lot better than other 'more' talented bands can play them.. well so i've heard and other 'punk' bands too.. haha.. sum 41.. ugh :|

Some change is good but listen to RTL and then St anger its no where near the same there werent any solo's!!!! the band that is known for amazing solo's had no solo's in there latest album! that was scarey St anger Was ok but not much more then that. The riffs sound like Korn riffs it was stretched out on pro tools till it pissed me off. but The lyrics were still very metalica like but in a different musical style
As for ozzy all his solo albums were just like repeats of old black sabbath albums. so metalica and ozzy are basicly the extremes of change and staying the same. The music should change a bit since the band changes over time but Try to keep some of the same sound at least it seemed to me that metalica changed to fit in with the new music comming out but if the change is because they changed it cool but it seems like it was too much of a coinsadence (sp? it late and i cant spell anyways) to me

Who's the lead guitarist in Good Charlotte (the guy with the most tatoos)? Isn't he the singer in a very popular punk band? I know I saw him somewhere before in a video.
Ohh Kristina, you said this in your thread "If you want some real punk rock, check out NY Dolls, Dead Boys, the Clash, etc. good stuff."
Do you mean New York Dolls when you said "NY Dolls"? The reason I am asking is because New york dolls is a VERY old band and the lead guitarist of that band is now, none other than the notorious Blacky Lawless of W.A.S.P.
