If you were using heat tape it would only take two strips of 11" heat tape (which would still be cheaper than buying one UTH), or one heat mat (some places make them large enough - these are not to be confused with UTH or human heat pads, they are an agricultural product). The only snakes that CHE are stuiable for are arboreal species such as Emeralds.

Where can I get heat tape? All I have seen at my local pet shops are UTHs, lights, and ceramic heaters?

You can order it from the states, the best place IMHO is <a href="http://www.beanfarm.com">The Bean Farm</a>. Sometimes people have it up here for private sale is they have a surplus order, and sometimes <a href="http://www.portcreditpets.com">PCPC</a> sells it as well
