My ball python stopped eatting and someone gave me the suggestion of putting her in a snake bag with dead food over night in a warm place. My burm is finicky with f/t food- I put her in the snkae bag instead at night with the food, and by morning it's been gone each time. If we feed her in a open box like everyone else- she won't eat. So maybe it's a stagefright thing- try that.

Most baby boids will not take frozen/thawed mice or rats. They have to be LIVE. If the prey item does not have fur on it the snake will not recognize it as a food source (this goes for all larger python babies such as Balls, burms, bloods.....etc). So, this leaves you with live fuzzy rats or live hopper to adult mice. Baby burmese can eat an adult mouse right after they hatch so as long as it is live and has fur it should eat it. Most people get too bent out of shape about live prey and most of the people that are against live prey don't maintian large collections. As long as the animals are supervized any size live mouse and small rats are fine to feed to your snake.

Good luck!
Corey

and you have a good reason to be scared looks like M. Woods did not pay a 200$ vet bill to get a burm fixed from a rodent bite.

And yes I have maintaned larg colections and I am still against live prey and my burm is 2 weeks old and she eats F/T she ate the same day I braught her home.

try tong feeding f/t. this works 100% of the time with me.
my burm will not eat if i just through dead prey in the tank, however if i use tongs he will grab it every time.
also scenting with chicken broth works very will with pythons.
although most healthy burms will eat just about anything rodent like, and do not usually need scenting if all else fails its worth a try.

hope this helps Jason

I digress.
Many have offered dead food to boids as their first meal with success.
Many big name breeders give dead (f/t) food as a rule.

thanks to everyone for your advise. he finally ate. I guess all he needed was a little time to get used to his new home. since i put in a hide box he has been alot better and less stressful. I guess nothing was wrong with him after all.

What trick got your snake to finally eat? How did you prepare it's meal?

congrats! I have a similar problem. I have a baby ablino burm and it hasnt eatin yet. Its less than 2 months old and i have tried quite a few tricks, i just got a smaller tank for her for now and i have her an night glo heat lamp (i know people dispise them but they have always worked for me). the guy at the store said i could actually leave that on all the time, but thats another story. i tried to feed him yesterday but no luck, he seemed interested at first but then turned away. i am going to give him another couple days and try again. i have tried mice, rat pups, and even tried the paper bag trick. Anyway was the guy at the pet store right, can i keep that night glo on all day and night. the temp is 88-92 and his side with the water is 82-85.

but when he didnt eat, i was astounded because of the fact i have never heard of a burm no eating, my other on is a little pig.
