Darryl,

Contrary to what some people believe, true "Pastels" come from only two different lineages. The Ronnie line and EBV line. These boas were specifically bred because of their light coloration and reduction in heavy flecking/dark pigment. Many people advertise their animals as "Pastels" when in reality they're not..

This is IMO... and many others will agree as well.. Many people coin their boas as "Pastel" to simply demand a higher value for their boas witch are not properly represented...

Best of luck to you...

no need to try to link from 'that other site'. Mr. Ronnie has his own site!

The Boaphile

Morti used to work with him. After seeing pics of baby boas that were born here last year, Ronnie told Morti that he could call a few of the offspring 'pastel' based on the coloring alone. They are not related in any way to his boas or EBV's. Doesn't seem to me that Ronnie feels his or EBV's lines of snakes are the only pastels out there.....

Hi Darryl,

Here are some pictures of my female "Pastel Boa". She is not related to Jeff's bloodline. She is from my own bloodline that I produced in 98. I did e-mail Jeff about 3 years ago and asked him if he thought if my female BCI was a pastel and he said yes she was. Now I wish I did not sell the other 8 babies out of a clutch of 19 that looked just like her. Just think some lucky people got there pastel boa for $50 to $80. I am still kicking my self for that one.

This picture is from 99

In this picture she is with a normal female BCI.

That’s news to me!

There used to be an on going debate as to weather or not people should be rightfully using the "Pastel" name to their boas if they haven't come from original lineage. I wasn't aware Jeff's opinions had changed.. I apologise if this is the case. But as I said in my first post… It’s IMO…

S'alright Darren. Morti has a couple of Ronnie's pastels here, too. One is from his Lucy line... don't remember what the other one is, LOL. Joel Dubay also had his own line of pastels that Ronnie now owns (bought'em all!)

As far as what Ronnie may think about his snakes... you must remember that he does not view the Colombian bci to be BCI at all. So he calls all of his boas BCC.

WOW those are some NIIIIIIICE boas. I cant wait till my girl(which is sitting around my neck) gets that big. I like the pastels but out of all boas, my favorite is EASILY the Monster Tail Hypo. God when I saw one of them. I flipped OUT!!!!!!!!

Yes I remember Jeff's talks about his views on Bcc vs. Bci... I can't say I ever completely agreed with his views but it is an interesting conversation...

I haven't talked to Jeff or Morti in some time now.. Maybe it's about time I bought a few more cages lol.

Thank you for you're time and effort to post on the forums LdyDrgn... I enjoy reading what you have to say and you're views on many subjects...

Would you deem this a pastel?

I'd never have thought so, but she looks like the snake in Tom's pics.

Zoe... to me that looks to be pastel. Pastel is a reduction in black pigment, less freckling/flecking, muddy sides on the tail and washed out medallions. If you look at a 'normal' boa, you will see more freckles, the medallions will be very clear, the sides of the tail aren't as muddy and there is more black pigment.

Darren - thank you very much! As far as speaking to Morti, just e-mail him. He found out about 6 months ago that he was no longer working with Ronnie. His job was just given to someone else.... If you no longer have his addy, shoot me a PM and I'll give it to you. He remembers you.
