Insert String of Profanities Here
I went to the pet store (yes I know to buy from breeders, but I couldn't resist) and he's had this little ribbon snake there FOREVER. No one will buy it because it's high strung and squirmy. And I was talking to the head of the reptile department Aaron and he told me that he'd give me the snake for 10$ if I could just give her a home.
My mom is going out of town on Monday and I was going to do so then. My parents always say no to pets, but when I get them in the house, they couldn't care less. I can't figure it out! lol
So anyways, here comes the angering part. I asked mom where she put my spare aquarium because I wanted to "make a cacti terrerium"...SHE F***ING GAVE IT TO MY COUSIN FOR HER FISH! That aquarium cost me a good 75$! I am SOOO angry! I NEVER expressed permission to start giving away my things, ESPECIALLY my herp things.
So now tomorrow I'm running to garage sales and second hand stores in a desperate attempt to find a suitable litle home for my unpopular little snakey friend...

Your mother had no right to do that, but parents always do things like that I would go to your cousins house with a bowl and say put your fish in here. Then I would take my aquairum with me, may sound a little mean but hey its your aquairum.

Yeah, that was pretty unfair of your mom, but all parents do that. Gotta live with it, I guess, after all she had to endure labour, no?

I have a friend who said he MIGHT have a friend who's getting rid of theirs! So keep your fingers crossed...
Yeah I know, parents seem to do things like that *rolls eyes* Ugh...kinda makes me thankful I'm moving out in two years! lmao
And I would have been meaner, my cousin and I don't get along, I'm the cousin that everyone's proud of because I'm a good girl (as far as they know) and I got good grades, in College, etc. She's the bad drop out. lol But anyways, i was going to go over there and tell her she has five minutes to find it a new house or I'm flushing it (bluff of course).
Funny thing is...Ribbon snakes EAT fish...

I think my mom would do the same. I have a story similar to that...
My brother needed to use a "stand" for his TV for some production thing. So he asked if he could use my $86, 55 gallon aquarium for that purpose. I told him that it might be easier and a lot sturdier (sp?) to use the old computer desk in the garage. He told me it needed to stand up on it's side nice and tall. I said "maybe..." and just walked off, not even thinking about what could possibly happen. I mean... he has no control over MY big glass aquarium, right?
So, a couple days pass and I go out into the garage looking to feed my mean, hungry savannah monitor just waiting for his next meal to come up . As soon as I open the door to the garage I'm astonished to see my beautiful aqaurium tank with a huge crack down the side and some part of the glass popping out. I actually felt like CRAP!! I was hoping to use that cage for my new little dwarf caimen (which I have yet to get because of this *enter other word for dang* incident)!!
I walk inside to go find my mom, finding out that she gave them permission to use it! I was so angry then, and felt like yelling but didn't so things would be calm lol. She told me she was sorrya dn that he would pay me back, not $86 but $100. Wonder how that turned out? I do not know .
Wanna know how the cage got a big streaking crack through it's glass? Well... my brother's friend had it in the back of his pick-up truck and drove crazily, causing the cage to slam from side to side of the truck's bed !
Not cool not cool. But ah well... it's over now. I still haven't gotten my money, yet... but hey, he owes me!!!

....
You'll find an aquarium, no probs. If not, use a 42L Rubbermaid.
Ribbon snakes are way cool! They are soooo fun to feed minnows and stuff. And they are super alert. Not as easy to breed as garters, but they are way more fun to keep!

My western ribbon loves to wind himself through my hair, guess he's living up to his namesake.
Ribbons must be more expensive up your way than down here in the US, we see them for $9.99 in the petstores every day. As much fun as they are they are worth way more than that to me. I hope you can find a suitable enclosure for him at a reasonable cost because they are great snakes to have.

It's so nice to hear that you'll give that ribbon snake a nice loving home. I find it so sad that a lot of people don't like smaller snakes because they are not "cool" enough. I think those are often the neatest to have as they are usually much more active and entertaining to watch among other things.
About your folks giving away your tank, I would be livid too if I were in your shoes. Actually I've been there but for different things! My dad used to clean up the house by throwing our stuff and toys away. One year he threw more than half our Christmas gifts away "cleaning up", they were under a bed! This was less than 2 weeks after the holidays and we hadn't had a chance to open or even enjoy them! I was about 9 or 10 at the time and I tell you it kills your Christmas!!!
Gotta love 'em anyways

I would have put my mother in my car, drove to the pet store and then taken money out of her purse to purchase me a new tank!
I can't believe your parents feel its o.k. to remove your own propierty and give it away. How old are you? If you are under 18 its a bit more understandable (but still uncalled for) but if you are over 18, then its just stealing. Plain and simple!
Good luck finding a place for that ribbon snake to live!

Er, I don't wanna be a brat, but, shouldn't you have made sure that you had a tank, and all the fixtures, for the snake before you bought it? I understand from your post that the snake probably wasn't going to go anywhere if you waited another day or so... I know how 'impulse' buys are (even I am not completely innocent of that), but it's just a thought for the future. I agree that if you bought the tank, then your parents had no rights to give it away. If you purchased it yourself, ask them for a substitute, and I would ask for BIGGER and BETTER!!! LOL Good luck!

The Kritter Keepers sold in petstores actually don't work too badly for holding smaller snakes, at least for temporary homes - and I don't know how big this ribbon is, so maybe for a permanent home - and you can always pick up an appropriately-sized Rubbermaid container and a soldering iron and make your own cheap cage. [This is what I've done with all my snakes, except the AD boa constrictor.]

Jenn- I apologize... I misread your post! I thought you bought it already! Good deal that you didn't. Maybe you should contact your cousin and ask for the tank back? Kritter Keepers are ok, (in my opinion) for short term homes. I would worry heat from a lamp or UTH might melt them though... Good luck finding a home for him/her, and keep us posted!
