Northeastern Snake ID

Hello, my folks have 25 acres or so in Northeastern Texas, Mount Pleasant to be exact, and I came across this snake, which was beside a creek. I've compared it with snakes and tried to ID, but I'm not sure. Could anyone enlighten me?

Thanks

Re: Northeastern Snake ID

That is a cotton mouth. Even though you’re in Texas, this website will help with much of what you may see..

OKSNAKES.ORG

Hope this helps
