Green vs brown Sphagnum moss?

other than the obvious color, is there really a difference in these? I want to use some in the BRB and crestie enclosures.

Re: Green vs brown Sphagnum moss?

Can't help you to identify the differences, but if you look at the Wikipedia article, it might shed some light.

Also read the "Conservation" section, and see how the environment is being affected with the harvesting of the sphagnum (aka peat moss)...it might make you think twice about using it.

Now, if I could only find a way to grow my own...

Re: Green vs brown Sphagnum moss?

The brown is probably new zealand moss and the green moss is from the western hemisphere. Both work really well but the NZ stuff I can find in bigger bags so probably less expensive if you're going to use a lot of it.
