Snake strange behaviour when escaping

Today I've crossed path with a small snake (about 50cm long). When I touched it he immediately escape by make its body like a ring and literally looping away. This was for the first two times, then he went on defensive mode on striking position. But it did not seem to bite the stick. Anybody can help me to identify the snake type. It was moving around the house areas, I let it go but I am worry it could be poisonous.
Thank you
Valter

Re: Snake strange behaviour when escaping

Hmmm, sounds like the elusive "hoop" snake.
Could you provide any other info, such as location or description?
