Fight Reptile Bylaw in BC

The city of Richmond just did a total 180 and went from reasonable restrictions to a total ban on the sale of everything considered a reptile. They will be having a meeting and I need everyone to attend who can so we can show them that they need to look at the proposed alternatives.

General Purposes Committee meetings are open to the public and you are welcome to attend. If you would like the opportunity to be heard at this meeting, you may appear as a delegation to the Committee by contacting the City Clerk’s Department at (604) 276-4007 by Wednesday, April 16, 2003. Details regarding the meeting are as follows:

General Purposes Committee meeting
Tuesday, April 22, 2003
4:00 p.m.
Anderson Room – M.2001
City Hall – 6911 No. 3 Road

I'm going through the same thing here. It looks like B.C. is taking a few steps back. It is unfortunate that we constantly have to fight for our right to own the animals we love!

There is an old Irish saying "If I going down, I'm going down swinging!" Ok so it might not be Irish but it sure applies to us.

i would deff go there if i lived in bc.
i also think its a crock of ***** that they are doing this.
and im sure it wont be too long till they try to pull this crap in alberta as well.
What made them do this 180? was there some incidents that made them look at the whole reptile industry more or is it just some ****** thats trying to make it a better place without reptiles? the person that probably wants this to pass is a little girly who is affraid of some harmless little animals.

you will need to get some of the members to write letters aw well, as upon contacting several people in our area to go tomorrow, 22hrs notice isn't enough to book off of work, sitters, travel time, etc.,......let us know what you need written.

Anyone who wants the bylaw stuff can email me at amandaf@shaw.ca and I will send what I have.

Special note....the meeting is on the 22nd not the 16th. They only said you had to arrange to soeak by the 16th. As it turns out so many people want to speak that they will just have an open floor.

Good luck with your fight. Try and bring statistics showing you're more likely to be killed or bitten by a dog or horse then a reptile. Also showing that most viruses and illnesses that reptiles get won't affect humans where stuff like rabies that dogs and cats can get will affect humans.
