Timon lepidus update (Julius)
Julius continues to be the most awesome lizard. Still doesn't care for handling but he's got so much personality it's untrue. Love him to bits.
Discovered today he likes snails. Eats the whole thing, shell and all. Here he is rather fat from them.
Can't wait to get his new big viv. Big plans for the interior.

Ocellated Lizard? I read that the lizard feeds mainly on large insects, especially beetles, and also robs birds’ nests and occasionally takes reptiles, frogs, and small mammals. It also eats fruit and other plant matter, especially in dry areas.
And you're feeding snails? Very interesting...

Re: Timon lepidus update (Julius)
They're pigs! They'll eat pretty much anything. I was tipped off on the snails by the main bioactive store here in the UK. He didn't hang around either - very enthusiastic about them.
Some will eat vegetation, others are strictly carnivores for some reason.
I think as much variety as possible is key to their wellbeing. That and more uvb than would seem feasibly necessary for a lizard! Sun loving doesn't come close to describing them.

Nice looking lizard. You have a very impressive collection of critters Danny. One of my favorites.

Thanks zig. This guy is so cool. He pushes the boa hard for title of favourite of favourites.
Couple more bits for the collection - possibly have something lined up this week and the Z persicus should be incoming very shortly as well.

Lizards don't seem to like slugs but tons of species seem to really enjoy snails. People eat them, not such a stretch to think that a lizard would eat them.

Timons will happily eat slugs. They're proper dustbins!
I've eaten snails - very nice they are too. Unlike my lizard though I didn't eat the shell...
