Oh and your consumer laws Stateside suck. We have so much protection in the UK it is unreal.
I would be able to return that snake under about 4 different laws (not that I would necessarily want to - as I say she's very cute)!
People complain that our prices are much higher but then so is our protection when something goes wrong.

If they would have put some sort of cover sheet, to tell me what to expect, I wouldn't have had to pull teeth to get info out of them... I'll will never do business with XYZ reptiles again...

Re: Ordered me a BEL ball python today!
I think she's a little beauty.
All blue-eyed Lucys are not created equal. There are several different morphs that are considered BELs and some are whiter than others. Mojave Lessers aren't a particularly crisp white. Individuals will also vary from each other. Some may have bright blue eyes, some may have silvery blue eyes, etc. They will also change color as they mature. I have a pair of Super Mojaves that are brighter white than your girl is but they still have a faint yellowish cast to them and a light purplish shadow on their heads. You'd see a brighter white than that with a Super Lesser but you'd also pay a premium for it.
XYZ could have saved themselves some bad PR by simply responding to your questions and being level with you from the get-go. When a customer has questions or concerns about their new animal, taking the head-in-the-sand approach is not the way to go. I've had the same problem (I'm looking at you, ReptMart) trying to get answers after a sale and it's frustrating.

Ya i'm happy with her now... Shes not paper white as advertised but I can live with that... It was her eyes that was really important to me...
I didn't realize you can have a BEL in just about any species... Check this out! Good price... Texas rat Snake

Re: Ordered me a BEL ball python today!
Those are pretty awesome. Just sad that so many end up with bug eyes!

Re: Ordered me a BEL ball python today!
She's still a very pretty snake and she may pale up yet. And she does have lovely eyes...

They are born with them. Not too many have them.
Also, that's a run of the mill BEL. All their eyes are like that. They can vary a bit with the blue hue but that's certainly a BEL.
Odd about the pattern. I'd keep her myself based on the pattern and I wouldn't be surprised if she's got something hidden in her morphology. Or that she is a mix of say lesser and het russo or another combo in the BEL complex.

Re: Ordered me a BEL ball python today!
I know they are born that way lol
I must not see the 'good' ones often because right now I have seen more with the bug eyes than normal eyes.

Re: Ordered me a BEL ball python today!
I have a luecistic black rat snake and her eyes are more light grey than blue and she has a yellow tint to her. They are very similar to the Texas rats, same species I believe. Neat snakes, very smart in my opinion.

Re: Ordered me a BEL ball python today!
I saw Big Apple Herp selling regular BEL Texas rat snakes and then "bug eyes" for a higher price a while back. Some people like the look of the bug eyes and will drop an extra $20 for one but it's my understanding that it's a defect which responsible breeders are trying to minimize, not exploit.

Re: Ordered me a BEL ball python today!
Yeah, if I want a naturally bug eyed snake, I'd get a trans pecos rat snake lol.
I love the BEL Texas rats though. Then again, I'm a sucker for almost any white snake lol.

Looks like you have an ivory and not a real BEL. I have one myself and I adore her, but I can understand that you want what you paid for (mine was a rescue, so yeah, nothing paid and no false expectations when I took her on).
Good luck with your dispute.
Fyi, this is why I would only work woth a small breeder or someone at a show. Small breeders have more to loose so are more forthcoming and willing to work with a customer, and at a show, you KNOW what you are paying for because you can physically see it and touch it. Just my opinion of course.

Very true, I've also had bad dealings with larger companies haha
