Wipe out???
The guy at the reptile store talks me into this Wipe out stuff... I get home, pop the top off and take a sniff and it smell like Windex! I read the label and not only does it have Ammonium it has 99.87% inert ingredients! What and the hell are INERT INGREDIENTS!!! Grrrrrrr It's going back... I have been using rubbing alcohol to clean the tanks... I can't use bleach, my wife can't breath with it around... Any suggestions would be appreciated...

Re: Wipe out???
sattva, wipe out is ok to use on your tubs and tanks. Just rinse it away with water or wipe it again with a damp cloth. INERT by definition is a substance that doesnt react to chemical reactions. The main ingredient is whats important. Wipe out is great stuff. Hope this helped.

Re: Wipe out???
F10, chlorhexodine (my preference), or good old hot water and elbow grease will all be more cost effective and useful in comparison to that stuff.

Re: Wipe out???
I like the F10 also (glad I read this, I need to order more). I've used the Wipeout stuff but it does leave a residue if not rinsed properly

Re: Wipe out???
I've used wipe out myself for past 2 years without any issue. To be fair though I didn't do proper research before hand which isn't normal for me. Being new made the assumption it had a purpose but intend on researching it more to decide what to do going forward.

Re: Wipe out???
FWIW if the active ingredient is very potent, you can expect it to be heavily diluted. I do try to avoid products with added fragrances, etc. if I have other options. I have used Wipe Out (have to check out F10) but haven't been impressed. I always seem to miss a small spot in the final wipedown and it leaves a nice sticky patch which I later locate by the glob of aspen bedding stuck to it.

Re: Wipe out???
If you're disinfecting a cage because of a specific exposure, then different solutions would be required as no one disinfectant kills all viruses, bacterial, or parasites. Each disinfectant has pros and cons and things it works for and things it does not. If you're removing feces/urates/uneaten food items promptly from known clean animals, all you really need is soap and water to remove germs. chlorhexidine should be safe as a general purpose disinfectant, I've used it mainly with water bowls.

Well f10 and Cavicide both are used in veterinary and medical clinics respectively. Mainly bc both have a wide bacteriocidal and virucidal and fungicidal properties. They are both expensive but worth it. You really do need more than soap and water though.
