regulating a UTH

Can you guys tell me how to regulate the heat on a UTH? I tried it on a dimmer and it still got the temps over 105F on the substrate at the lowest setting. It doesn't seem to radiate heat much so unless my probe is sitting right on it the thermostat won't do much. thanks!

What kind of thermostat do you have? I never have issues with my Herpstats.

Re: regulating a UTH

Well a uth isn't meant to radiate heat. It is meant to get hot and heat whatever it touches, kinda like a burner on a stove. My heat tape is set at 89°f but it gets 115°f before the probe which is 4" away registers 89°f. I use back heat.

I'm set up something similar to this image. The probe is connected to the heat lamp, and that works fine, but the UTH gets way too hot.
