Feeding Schedule?
Hey guys! I am getting a baby beardie soon and although I've done my research, I am curious to know what everyone's feeding schedule is. I know WHAT to feed, and I will be feedin dubia's instead of crickets, but do you guys feed salad in the morning and crickets/dubia's at night? Or is there a different way to do it? Any advice helps! Just wanna make sure I do the right for my beardie. Thanks!

Re: Feeding Schedule?
I don't personally have a beardie, but I help a friend look after hers often. What she does is feed a salad every morning and crickets every other morning.
I'm sure some other people will chime in with other ways to do it. It's probably best to look at all of the ways people do it, then pick one/tailor one to suit your beardie and your schedule the best.

Re: Feeding Schedule?
Put the fresh salad in every morning, and then feed it inverts two or three times a day if you are talking about a baby. Theyre growing fast so they need to have access to food regularly.

Re: Feeding Schedule?
Ahh perfect! Ok, thank you both! Eric that's exactly what I'm trying to do... Find a good schedule. I know that feeding babies is different than adults, though, so I just wanted some advice. I saw pictures of my little boy today, he's very cute and looks like he's been eating well already. He's a normal hypo(?)... Or something like that. I'll try to get pictures up, but his body doesn't look like its more than 3 inches. Not sure when he was hatched out

Re: Feeding Schedule?
It's worth providing a variety of foods rather than just dubias, crickets and some veg. A varied diet (of dusted/gut loaded silk worms, calci worms, butter worms, mealworms, locusts etc) will reduce the chance of nutritional problems

Re: Feeding Schedule?
Thank you, Vgorst. I do know they need a variety, I was just stating that I'm breeding and feeding dubia as a main protein. I know there needs to be variety. I was asking more about if it's best to do veggies in the morning, and "meat" the rest of the day. I'm finding the greens get dried out if he doesn't eat them, so I may put them in a little later than I have been. I know they don't eat many veggies at this age, I just want them to be available for him, and give him some throughout the day.

Re: Feeding Schedule?
Thinking Chomper needs his own thread! I have so many pictures of him already and it's only been a week!

Re: Feeding Schedule?
How many roaches(other insects) should a 3 month old beardie be eating? Ones told he is eating too many... I thought babies were supposed to have as much as they'll eat?

Re: Feeding Schedule?
Yes, feed him as much as he will eat. There is no such thing as too much for a baby that is growing like a weed.

Re: Feeding Schedule?
Thank you, Jarich! That is what I figured... He stops showing interest in food when he's full! Only problem now is he only eats his veggies when I give them to him.. Lol. I wil start a profile for him, It will be awesome to see him from just under 3 months to when he's full grown! There aren't many Beardie people on here, are there?

Re: Feeding Schedule?
I think there are a fair number of us here that keep them, but they are pretty simple to care for so I think that might be why they dont get as much 'air time' as some of the other reptiles here.
Yes, its common for them not to eat as much vegetable matter when they are young. As they get mature you will notice him starting to consume more. It sometimes feels like a waste to replace it everyday, but its necessary to keep it there for when they do want it. It also keeps the crickets and other bugs from bothering your dragon when they are hungry.
Youve got a UV light for him, right? Post a picture of your enclosure when you get a chance. Always good to have some feedback as a new keeper, to help avoid any future problems.
