Are they supposed to eat eggs?

Wont harm them but I don't believe it is part of they're natural diet, they would rather get the thing that laid the eggs(somebody correct me if I am wrong ). But this is a very cool vid. Thanks for sharing Never really seen a cali eat an egg.

I'd be worried about the shell cracking and cutting something inside. But I don't know how soft a sparrow egg is.

Re: My kingsnake eats a sparrow egg- VIDEO!

I believe they will eat eggs in the wild; be it lizard eggs on/in the ground, or a ground/shrub nesting bird. They are pretty opportunistic, though YES predominately other snakes/mice. These are by no means a regular food item; we were taking down sparrow nests at the barns where i work ( ) and i saw the parents leave (so i know they were fresh), and took the eggs home to my snakes. I'm very certain this is a one-of type of feeding

That is so cool!
And what a cute snake, his tongue flicks so rapidly! Is that a kingsnake thing?

Re: My kingsnake eats a sparrow egg- VIDEO!

Which snake?
The albino is pretty wary of new things, he investigated the egg a lot longer before trying it out. He is more nervous, and spends a lot more time tongue flicking when being handled, though show him a mouse and hes off like a rocket
The other one, Nyx, is an eating machine, it took about two seconds for her to say 'YUP, FOOD!' she is also very very active, always roaming around her tank, climbing etc. She is pretty good to handle though, very calm. She flicks her tongue a lot when food is involved (making sure she didnt miss anything ) wheras Lux flicks his tongue when he is scared, but hardly ever around food.

Re: My kingsnake eats a sparrow egg- VIDEO!

Also: I don't normally feed them on my bed, or use a hook when feeding, but we make a lot of sacrifices for a good video :P I had the towel down because i didnt want them to get yolk all over the bed if things took a turn of the worse.

I was scrambling initially to get my camera all set up and the snakes in place, but it turned out to be over-easy I poach-ed you all liked the videos!
