Feeder Breeding?
What the most cost-effective way to breed your own mice and rats?
Also how do you get your mice and rats to breed faster?
Im trying to breed my own rats and mice inorder to save alot of money on food for my snakes, so i could spend the money i save for some new animals or an upgrade for my snakes.

Re: Feeder Breeding?
Someone recently mentioned that Mykee raises his own feeders for about $.57 a day. However, that's likely after the initial outlay for equipment and breeders. If you do a search on the forum, there are a number of discussions about breeding feeders.
Good luck!

Re: Feeder Breeding?
Actually I believe it is .57¢ for the entire life of the feeder.

Duh. Of course. I don't know what I was thinking when I said "per day"--that would be horrendously expensive! Thanks for the correction, Kevin!

Re: Feeder Breeding?
I see that you're from NYC. I know a guy who sells rats, sizes pinky-large, extremely cheap, with large costing $2.50. He delivers straight to your door, too. PM me on here if you want his contact information.

Re: Feeder Breeding?
it is a lot of work, I breed and order. about half and half and the breeding is a full time job..cleaning cages constantly and if you cant afford the right set up it makes it even harder lol
I feed mine lab block but also noticed if I give them some nutt/fruit bird seed they breed more often. if I have a colony that has been together for 2 wks or more and nobody is pregnant throw a bit of that seed in there and it turns into a orgy lol I have no idea why
also vanilla extract in their water keeps the smell down..good luck!!
