Is Golden Algae dangerous for brumating sliders?

My stepson is wondering if golden algae could possibly kill a brumating red-eared slider by preventing oxygen exchange through the cloaca. Anyone familiar with golden algae? Anyone have any educated guesses to offer?

Wait, what? Oxygen exchange through the cloaca?
Edit :Just did a google search, thats pretty cool actually. Nothing I can see re-complications from algae
