New behavior.
Just an observation. Almost 36 hours ago I fed Lou the biggest supper he's ever had. 2-19g mice. I know, I know...rats are better. Expo on Sunday will remedy that.
Anywho, today I wake up and Lou is missing! He wasn't in his favorite hide on the hot side. He was in his hide on the cool side. Maybe he is in the market for new real-estate?
No worries, but he has never gone into his cool side hide (both are identical from Reptile Basics, the black ones) until his shed a few days ago. It was kinda funny, as he shed, his hide was spinning as he twisted and turned! XD
He occasionally goes into the "front yard" of his warm side. Substrate temp on warm side is lower than the bare glass where he sits. I figured it's a new snakes lazy/cautious way to thermo-regulate. Is it at all possible Lou is now adapted/settled into his new home, venturing over to his cool side hide?
My, er, Lou's temps are pretty much perfect! 90-91 warm side, 78-80 cool side, ambient air temp around 81, humidity 60%. He's ate for me 3 times in a row, never refused supper! Alert, clean fresh shed, took a nice solid dump, tongue is flicking... Just caught me off-guard seeing him in his cool hide. Yay, that thing cost me almost 4$. Sorry about the book, ^. Any problems with what I described? \m/ \m/

Re: New behavior.
I'd be more worried if he was only using the one hide... With a properly set up viv they should use both sides...

Agreed. Nice to see him going back and forth. The little guy teaches me new things everyday! Amazing creatures, they are!

Re: New behavior.
I like the fact that you are paying attention to your snake and observing what it does, that way when something is off, you will spot it quicker. Props man.

Thanks, man! Yeah, Lou just isn't some exotic conversation piece. Heck, not many friends of mine even know I have him. They can keep their dirty mitts off him! XD He is my pet that I fully intend on having around for 20+ years. Ha, I'll be almost 60 when he's 20. \m/

Re: New behavior.
I don't even let my friends into my reptile room, I make them watch my youtube videos instead.
I refuse to stress my animals in the name of being cool.

Sure thing, but wait till it's summer, out back is far more interesting.

same here Wayne...
very few of my friends know i keep snakes, like you i don't want them being hassled by folk wanting to hold a snake
re temperatures
i use basic care sheet temperatures on any new arrivals, then i watch the snake, then adjust the temps according to what it tells me
cheers shaun
