Re: what to do when your retic is wounded ?
pain releaver free tripple antibiotic like neosporin applied to it will help healing. First you should call your vet and schedual an apt because there may be a reason he has it to begin with then see what other treatments are avaliable. Feed him smaller meals if you fear the skin is getting pulled with larger prey?

Just clarifying this because it seemed odd to read, she is talking about Neosporin WITHOUT any pain relief.
Even made a picture

Re: what to do when your retic is wounded ?
First of all....HYDRATION. He looks like was dehydrated or had a bad shed (usually go hand in hand). That, or the meals you are giving him are WAY too big. Could you clarify how this happened? What are you feeding him? how big is the prey? set up? etc, etc. I honestly wouldn't feed him until that's healed up...especially if it keeps tearing open. screw the neosporin, betadine soaks is the way to go!

i think his not dehydrated master because i put water in his cage maybe his preparing for shedding,. yuhh , absolutely right i'm giving him too large meals ., such as rats and chick ., actually , i haven't notice that my dad puts a large rat at his cage in the evening .., then suddenly as i wake up i just saw my retic is already wounded and the rat is dead ., and every time i feed him his wound is opening ., should i wait till his wound heal then give his meal ? or just give him a smaller meal ?

Wait, he left a live rat in there overnight and that's how the snake got injured?

the wound needs stitched up by a vet
or you stop feeding him until it heals itself (not really a good way to do it)
cheers shaun

Re: what to do when your retic is wounded ?
Don't feed him. He'll be fine for a few weeks without food. He NEEDS to heal before that gets infected. Put newspaper in his cage (or paper towels). does he have a water dish in there when he isn't shedding? they need to have water AT ALL TIMES.

Re: what to do when your retic is wounded ?
Never leave a live prey in with your snake without watching it. As mentioned already, let your snake miss a few meals so the wound can heal. I would remove the substrate from the enclosure and keep him on paper towel or news paper. Keep the wound clean.

What an unfortunate experience for such a beautiful creature! Let it heal by all means.

If you read my post, you'll see I was talking to the OP and used "he," as opposed to "you." So obviously I knew that and took it into consideration.

That's a huge wound for it to be caused by a rat......
