Feeding my boa chicks?

I went to the store to buy a XL rat but they not selling them singular now and have not got a freezer for them. So I bought a pack of 5 chicks. She has eaten 4. But I was wondering is chicks good enough for them as a regular diet or just as a treat.

Re: Feeding my boa chicks?

I was told only as a treat as they need to eat several of them to fill up rats is a better choice

If your boas poop is runny you have a serious problem. I had one boa that had parasites that caused its poop to be runny.

@op

When your boa poops you are going to know it. Fowls make the stench intense. Chickens don't have as much calcium as a rat would and chicks don't have as much nutritional value as an older chicken. Feeding a consistent diet of chicken is just too rich for most snakes.

he said smelly, not runny. Where did you get runny? Ive never fed my boas anything but rats and the odd dove so i have no clue if chicks make their poop runny. But their poop always smells. More often than not WORSE than my dogs.

I am not sure but I will gladly argue the point.

Re: Feeding my boa chicks?

Oh thought that was the case. She looked like she enjoyed them anyway. I'm going to look at getting a freezer and buying rats on line.

Feh! These are boas we are talking about. They aren't prone to imprinting like royals.

That would be the only reason I wouldn't recommend it but if you have a garbage disposal snake... Why not?

Re: Feeding my boa chicks?

It's not a good main food source. It's ok for a variety, but be careful as some animals get stuck on them, just like they can get stuck on mice, or ASF's, etc.

And yes, chicks make the poop stinky!
