trying to get this 20l tank to work.

So i got the 20l tank thinking a tank would work good for my snake. well its not. i cannot hold humidity. i wrapped 2/3 of the lid with cling wrap. i am using heat lamps which i know these do not help at all. i have eco earth and reptibark for substrate and i mist 2-3 times a day. temps are good 85-87 hot spot, 82 ambient temp on the hot side and cool side floor is 72-74.

so i talked to vital exotics today and he said to put a hide on the hot side. i put one over there and stuck some wet paper towel in there and also a pice of wet paper towel on the cool side hide.

i need to get this tank to work for another month then i can order my pvc cage with radient heat and t stat.

what are your guys oppinions.

That's about all you can do, really...until the new cage comes in.

Some people put damp towels over the top. Others actually build their own custom closed-in top out of wood with their own installed light fixture.

What kind of snake is it?

dumerils boa. shes a baby now 22ish inches. i had a couple pices of glass i cut to fit the top but that didnt help with the temp in my apt had to go up a little.

You don't have an undertank heatpad, do you? That would be ideal. Can you go pick one up at a local pet shop?

no i dont. i had one on the "first tank" and it shattered the bottom of the tank. i dont see spending $40 on a uth when i plan on going to rhp with my pvc tank when i order it.

Understandable.

Yeah, just keep as much of the top as covered as possible. I like coconut coir (aka. Eco Earth, Plantation Soil, Bed-a-Beast...its all the same same stuff - ground-up coconut husk). Doesn't dry out as quick as cypress mulch does.

i said in the first post i am using a mixture of reptibark and eco earth. i think this set up will work. she seems to like her new hide alot. i just hope it is warm enough in there for her. it is right under the heat lamp and i have the papertowel in it wet. it is one of the ceramic rock hides. fingers crossed.

I've found that sphagnum moss holds the moisture longer than a paper towel does, if that's an issue for you too.
