What's the largest python you folks have?
Just curious what is the largest pythons that you folks have in your personal collections? I've never spent any time around these large snakes and have always wondered how much and how often they eat. I just presume it could get expensive if they eat much.

Re: What's the largest python you folks have?
I have 2 juvenile burms, roughly 7' long, with one being a little larger than the other. They usually eat 2 jumbos every 10-14 days. I also have 3 other animals that eat about the same but a little less often.

7.5 ft Jungle Carpet Python. She eats 1 jumbo rat every 2 weeks or a 1.5-2lb bunny once a month depending on season. Big meals in the summer.
Not expensive at all even if you figure in my other snakes its not that bad really. Some of these guys don't eat 3-4 months of the year.

I agree with the expensive part...my ball python is the more expensive eater because he won't eat rats, so he gets 2 mice a week...

Same problem I'm having with my male retic, hes the same age as my female but about 1/4 the size, he won't take anything bigger then a small rat so he gets 6-7 of them every meal. (he was injured eating a f/t jumbo when he was smaller and it put him off large meals ever since)

Is that why he wasn't eating well when you first got him? Were you just offering prey too large for his preference?
My Carpet Python has this too I believe. It's tough to get him to take a medium rat, but he'll usually take 2 small rats no problem. (together being about the size of a medium)

Not sure, when I first got him it was touch and go, he would take anything but only every 3-5 weeks, drove me nuts lol. Hes about 10lbs, and shes in the 35-45 range, I'll be weighing her this weekend

Then switch it to rats. It's not hard and it can be done.

Wow! I have a 2010 male a d a 2011 female that eat 1 medium rat every 14 days. I thought that was impressive for their ages. My female is almost as big as my male and she's a year younger. I noticed yesterday when I fed the mediums aren't leaving a food bump like they used to so ill be upping the size again soon. Same thing with my BCI and she's supposed to be a 2011 but she may actually be a 2010.
My critters are at a point they're starting to cost some serious money to feed. I need rabbits! Lol
