Uromastyx question?

Thinking of picking up a mali or nigerian in a few weeks if I can find a healthy one at the next reptile show.
So my question is would they do good with deep substrate to burrow in(knowing they need it dry) as I want to put together a really nice display cage for them.
I've read the deerfernfarms care sheet and they talk about not using deep substrate and even using millet seed as a substrate I think. So I'm just wondering on others opinions

I know a few monitor guys that are keeping and breeding ornate and few other uros species just like monitors. Deep sandy dirt, high temps, without any special lighting needs (dust food with supplements). I think deer farms mentions using a humid hide which has bed-a-beast or coco-fiber. Their humid hide takes the place of tunnels that a uro would make on there own. Uros are burrowers by nature after all.

I used fine-grade children's playground sand for mine (the kind sold at Toys-r-Us, not Lowe's), and it worked fine. I used that excavator stuff for the nest boxes.

BTW, "nigerian" is an inaccurate label that only refers to their point of export. U. geyri are not native to Nigeria. The more true common name is Saharan Uromastyx.

I just use about 3-4 inches of washed playsand for my adult. My juvenile I have on newspaper until she gets a little bigger. If you go with a deep substrate, just make sure anything you put in the cage is on the actual floor of the cage so if they dig, the object won't fall on them.
