Do you brumate your snakes?

Since I've seen widespread controversy on the net over brumation, I thought I'd put up a poll.

Who brumates their snakes, and who doesn't? (purposefully: lowering temps in the winter, not feeding, etc. I am not talking about snakes that automatically go off food in the winter)

Would like to see how this poll goes.

I don't brumate, I don't see a poit as I only keep animals that live in places that are warm all year round.

I let the snakes decide... if they want to do the big sleep then less power and food cost for me as I will shut the enclosure down... well minimal to mimic natural temps in their endemic area.

IMO the Diamond Python,is by far my most economical snakes to keep.....

1.they only get fed 6 months of the year ( first thing i learned about Diamonds was,a FAT Diamonds a DEAD Diamond )

2.they get a basking spot of roughly 90F,for 2 to 8 hours per day,depending on the season

3.UVB 2.0 natural light flueresent tube (8 inch long,1 inch circumferance),for 2 to 8 hours per day,depending on the season

they use less heat/power,they eat less,than any other carpet i keep

in winter i cut all the other Carpet Pythons feeds down,to 3,4 at the very most

i think i should tick.....

depending on the snake.....

as its the closest to,i only brumate the individual snakes,i wish to use in breeding projects

is that what you mean't when you say...

Yes I brumate as they NEED it to reproduce....

I've only brumated two of my snakes and only last year. Those are my Rosy boas and though I don't intend to breed them again next year, I will probably do so again this winter. Mainly for the female. She's a 12-14 year old breeder that I got in Sept two years ago and I believe she is used to being brumated. She went off feed/ate sporadically starting the middle of Oct. the year I got her and since I'd never brumated the other snakes, I did not brumate her that year. All the rest of that year I had issues with her eating, refusing to eat and two regurges. After testing and trying stuff to figure out what was wrong with her, it pretty well came down to thinking it was because she did not brumate. So I brumated both her and my male the next winter. Once she came out of brumation, she ate like a champ and had no issues, in fact seemed fat and healthy enough to breed. I think it was just a major disruption to a very established pattern for her. However, my male, who I do not believe was brumated by his former owner but is LTC, doesn't seem to care one way or the other.
