Constructing my first locking lid!

Ok, so I have to express my excitement! I am about to build my first locking lid. This is huge for me. I've never built anything before, so this will be quite the experience. I had just a plain screen lid with screen clamps, and obviously keeping the heat and humidity right has been a challenge. I did so much research and thought about all my options. As a female without any sort of carpentry or construction experience, I'm happy with what I've planned. It may not seem like a nice, fancy plan to most, but it's gonna fix the problems I've experienced. For one, my CCP escaped ONCE, so The top is going to be attached with hinges and have 4 hinge-type locks so there's no way she can escape. I'm also going to make holes on one side for the heat lamps. I am going to put small chicken wire in between the wood pieces im using so Sero wont be able to burn herself. There will be a ventilation area(duh), and a hole drilled on the opposite side from the heat lamps for the hose of my repti-fogger. I'll have to play with the timer on the repti-fogger so I can set it correctly and not over do it, but this way the humidity can't rise through a large screen area. It'll work wonders, I think! All of this will be a great "first test" for me, since I am slowly researching and planning to build her a custom enclosure. When I have it all set up, I'll try to post pictures. I'm hoping to have it done within the next week. I hope I explained it enough for a GENERAL idea of what I'm doing. Forgive me for being inexperienced in the building area. last time i tried my hand at a snake cage with lid, it was a giant tupperware (plastic bin) with pop handles...to which i then drilled holes all over and through, and then i have to keep the lid down and on with screws *lol* hey my carpet python loves it.

Thanks Melissa! I'm hoping I didn't get in above my head on this as its crucial for my girl. She's too big to be getting out and since I am finally bring her inside my house, I don't want my kitties getting hurt if I'm not there to supervise. She's been in her 135 gal tank in my garage because I can't get her current home up the stairs into where I live without taking my deck apart, and I can't do that. I'm excited to get her inside and and get her as comfortable as possible and be able to keep an eye on her almost 24/7. It's going to make everything great for her and I, that's for sure!

Good luck I am getting a baby burm in a few weeks so I know in the next few years I will have to build a large permanent home for him or her havent decided on sex I dont have any breeding plans for a burm because to many people are unable to keep them due to their size so I think I may go with a male

Thanks, and I bet you're excited! I am as well. My Coastal is a big girl, an I really have to build an enclosure for her as well. She will temporarily be in a smaller enclosure but she'll be much more comfortable and less stressed. I wish you luck!

Sooo I am finished making my first lid. I think it turned out well for my FIRST reptile project lol. There are a few things I could have done differently, but of course the ideas didn't come till I had already done it. I definitely learned a lot, though. So now all I have to do is get the enclosure up some stairs, transfer everything from the old one to the new, closely monitor the temp and humidity, and then add in sweet Serophina. I'm hoping that the temp and humidity won't take too long to figure out, but the old enclosure had an entire screen top, and this one isn't. So we'll see! I'll post pictures once everything is moved and situated.
