Re: need help with enclosure

I almost hope you are a troll. Anyone who would get a rattlesnake without doing extensive research... Well, I don't know what to say.

Surely this is a troll post.

If this thread is real. My only advice is to find someone that knows and understands hots to take the snake until you are ready to own one.

You need to get a mentor who can properly guide you through owning and setting up the right enclosure for a venomous snake. If you are asking for guidance on here for the basic set up, you might want to reconsider getting the snake right now. Do you have any previous experience with any snakes?

No response from this guy. Write it off as a troll post. And not even a well thought-out one, at that.

Sounds like it was an AWESOME idea to pull the poor thing out of the wild just so you can poke at it, who needs the great outdoors when you have a box, a few rocks and a lid.

I think you should do yourself and all the people that live with you a favor and release it back out where you found it before someone gets seriously hurt.

I recommend you release it back into the wild, asap. If you want to relocate it, you call your local reptile company that deals with wildlife relocation to do it for you.

With no previous experience with venomous snakes, you or a loved one will most likely end up dead.

That being said, you'll need to get a special enclosure for a rattlesnake. The enclosures for venomous snakes have more than "just a lid." You'll need it to be completely 100% escape-proof. You'll also need a trap box for when you clean the enclosure. You'll need hooks and special gloves. You'll need training. You need to find out where you can get anti-venom should anyone get bit.

Do your research. There is a lot of information on the internet. Then come back with specific questions, so that we can help. The fact that you don't know what temperature or humidity the snake should be kept at, goes to show that you are not read for a rattlesnake.

Think about this carefully... We don't want to hear you get hurt.

If it was living wild on your property I would suggest that you release it in a safe area.

Re: need help with enclosure

Sorry, that makes it even worse taking it from the wild.

"Hey, here's a rattlesnake! I think I will make a pet out of it. Now... How in the world do I do that?"

Use your head. You will gain a lot more respect by doing the exact opposite of what you have done. Take pictures, post them. We LOVE that! But don't go on a forum asking advice for a wild caught venomous snake that you think is cool to keep.

Do you not want what's best for the animal? Or only what's best for you?

I take no responsibility for what may happen to you by keeping a venomous animal. But a simple Google Search by you would have turned this up:

» A Complete Guide to Keeping Western Diamondback Rattlesnakes (Crotalus atrox)

I am still thinking TROLL !

What state are you in? In many areas it's illegal to so much has handle a venomous snake without a license and 100+ LOGGED hours of mentoring.
