what's up with the "grams" thing??
How come all snake weight reference is in grams. I could understand baby snakes/lizards. but after they reach 1lb in weight they should be referred to as such. I.e. my snake weighs 5lbs 7oz this gives me such a BETTER idea of the size of the snake. not that gram non sense 893 grams??? wtf is that?? 3lbs 12oz. OH I totally understand now!!

Because its way more accurate. Metric is way better in every way. Not sure why anyone would still be using imperial to be honnest.

werd... but its what we're stuck with here in the States. I use metric as often as I can, but there's plenty of times where I wish I could, but simply can't.
edit: if you do it enough you can convert things over pretty easily in your head if you're decent with math. 1000g = 1 kg = 2.2 lbs. So an 800g snake is roughly 1.75lb. My phone says 1.76. Throw me a number and I bet I can get close enough for most people's purposes.

Re: what's up with the "grams" thing??
I think the U.S. is the last country in the world using Imperial measurement. I've never understood Imperial - it's just so random that it's confusing.
Metric is so easy and so sensible as everything is based on units of 10. Maybe one fine day the States will get up to speed with the rest of the world, which by the way will be measured in Kilometres

Actually speed will be measured in kph or kilometers per hour. A lilometer is a measurement of distance.
When I was a kid we learned both Imperial and metric because, at the time, the US was supposedly getting ready to go metric. Somehow it never happened and I'm not sure. I'm more comfortable with Imperial just from it being everywhere but I agree that metric makes more sense.

^^^ kilometer, not lilometer. LOL
Shaun, that's weird but I bet you don't really even notice it. A litre of beer just wouldn't sound right.

Re: what's up with the "grams" thing??
I much prefer imperial measurements, my dad was a craftsman and taught me as a kid so all my education was in imperial and then i went to school and we were taught metric!! I transfer most metric measurements back to imperial in my head to make it make sense to me

Re: what's up with the "grams" thing??
I am much better at calculating distance in meters or kilometers than in feet and yards. And it makes way more sense to have 1000g = 1kg than to have 16oz = 1lb. I use grams to weigh my snakes and I can tell people roughly what it is in pounds/ounces if they ask (like Kyle does).
