Daft Retic

Due to the ferocity of his strike we have started to feed our SD Retic by just tossing the rat into his viv onto his log. Every feed until this one he has been fine with this but this time he is doing this.......

"Can anyone else smell rat?"

Re: Daft Retic

He is now laid with his head on the rat!! What a doofus, when we walk past the tank you can tell he is still in feed mode but its almost like he cant find the rat.

Hope either he eats it or is asleep in his hide in the morning so i can get it out without losing and blood!

Re: Daft Retic

My Kenyans will do the same thing, lay their heads on their mice or rats, but then after a few minutes, they'll start to eat

Her is hoping you'll not be losing any blood, Rob!

Re: Daft Retic

Been there, some snakes are just relentless. I usually end up giving another rat and taking the first one back(usually to try again afterwards, nothing saying they can't have 2 rats once in a while) but they almost always find it on their own. Just the dumb*** jags that don't really.

Re: Daft Retic

lol I've seen some of mine do almost the exact same thing lol Last feeding one of my dumerils decided she was just going to smell and lick her rat to death lol. She smelled it all over, going up and down over the body, then finally decided to strike and wrap. But she's a very unique one to feed. She has a strong feed mode, but it takes her forever before she strikes and wraps her food unless I do the zombie rat dance. Then she wants to hold it for another 20-30 minutes before she decides it's dead enough to eat
