Do they get bored? :hmm:
Takala has now been handled a few times since I got her home a few days ago. I thought from what I had read that it was probably best to handle her quite frequently so she gets used to me/it. She has bitten me twice, and pooped on me once lol. My own fault for not waiting til she had done it in the faunarium I guess?
Today she came out with a little bit of a tail shake but no biting and she seems a lot more chilled when she is being handled. I thought it would be good for her to do a little exploring of the flat, like the carpet and bed (never let out of site of course) and it gave me the chance to take a few pics.
This has started me thinking. Do they get bored? I obviously cant let her go anywhere that she wants because I would loose her, so I am constantly picking her back up and I feel like I am restricting her. Do they move around much in the wild? I know from having the Axolotls that they tend to just sit in one spot and are pretty happy, is that the same with a corn snake?
Basically after all that, is she bored? and if so do any of you have ideas on how I can make her life as enjoyable as I can? If the answer is to leave her be, then fine, I just want to do what I can.

Re: Do they get bored? :hmm:
They dont get bored and are as "happy" being left in their hides and fed regularly as they are being handled, with new snakes it is a good idea to let them settle for a week or so before feeding them and then handling after a further 48 hours or so. Some snakes wont eat when stressed and handling can be stressful for a lot of snakes.
Look forward to seeing some pics soon

Re: Do they get bored? :hmm:
Ok, thanks.
We were told by the shop that sold her to us that she was due a feed, but to wait 24 hours before trying, which we did. She took the pinky with no problems, and I left her for 48 hours, as recommended. I have posted pics in the Gallery section, should I have done a thread? The guy in the shop said we got there a bit late in the season for picking a "pretty or different looking corn snake" but we think she looks great!

Re: Do they get bored? :hmm:
its always best to make sure they're eating regular before handling mate (3 or 4 feeds)
sounds like you have a fiesty little snake though, she's ate and had a few go's at biting you
the pooping on you is a " defensive " measure, she should stop doing it once she gets used to being handled
i don't handle mine until at least the 3rd day after feeding,to prevent any risk of regurgatation
snakes don't have emotions mate, imo they have only instincts for, food, water, heat, cold, security
sounds like your having a great time with your new snake
cheers shaun

Re: Do they get bored? :hmm:
You should probably wait to handle her until she's eating regularly for you. She's probably still getting used to her environment and was really nervous when you took her out. It's best to give her as much time as you possibly can to adjust on her own terms, only going into her tank to spot clean, change the water, or feed her. After she's eating well for you then you can start working on handling.
As for boredom... I'm not sure. When I look at my snakes (they're ball pythons) and wonder if they're bored, I think that they'd probably be doing the same thing they're doing in their cages if they were wild (which is sleeping in their hides all day for the most part). Sometimes I tell myself they're bored to give myself a reason to take them out
