Re: Little Update on my Jag
Thanks everybody! I couldn't be happier with this guy. He finally put on enough size that he isn't nervous when I put him up. Now if I can just win this battle I'm in with him about the eating mice and switch him to rats, I'll be a very happy camper.
Shaun: Beautiful diamond man, that guy colored up real nicely, he was a beauty when he was 6 months lol.

when having problems changing to rats,i've found heavily scenting them with mice works well
its a bit messy bursting mice open and smearing blood and guts all over the rats, but worth it if they cross over
i had to brain the rats as well as scenting them with some of my carpets, always give the head an extra heat after braining
patients and perciverance and NEVER offering mice again should do the job
i've found after a few weeks of not eating they tend to go for the heavy scented rats
try a size down from the prey it should be taking, once it starts taking the scented, then unscented smaller rats,up it to the size of rat it should be eating mate
i wish you all the best in getting him switched over
cheers shaun

Re: Little Update on my Jag
Thanks Shaun, I'll definitely try the scenting. It was weird, he was a real slow starter for the breeder and ate for me right away on hopper mice. As he got a little bigger he actually took some wean rats no problem but after that he will only take mice. I just recently switched two balls from just live mice to f/t rats so hopefully this will be a walk in the park(fingers crossed). Now I know to start all my guys on rat pinks and not even mess with the mice anymore for the carpets.

Re: Little Update on my Jag
Nice carpet! (not the one on your floor..ahaha i'm so funny!)
Shaun, that is actually great advice.
My little girl jungle/coastal took a rat once, it was just at the limit of what she could handle, but she got scared by something halfway through and barffed it all back up. Now she ONLY wants mice. She just flat out refuses rats, and she's almost twice as big as she was then, so i know she could handle it. (she's 40 inches long i think, and a healthy weight. Last weighed in at 185 at the vets a month or so ago...i thought she had an RI turns out it was a very stuck shed in her nostril).
Anyway...I let her eat a mouse this last time but i think i'm going to have to be firm with her and move her on up!
