Black beardie :-)

Can someone tell me why my beardie occasionally goes jet black under his chin, he doesn't puff up or fill out in any way, he just goes black ?

Re: Black beardie :-)

It's a display, it means he's agitated or he's displaying dominance.

Re: Black beardie :-)

There is one in our local pets at home that will ONLY do it if a female stands in front of his viv - nothing at all to blokes just to ladies

Re: Black beardie :-)

When I let my youngest Chewy out of his cage to run around my reptile room, he gets once glimpse of Muncher and turns jet black. He will charge Munchers cage bobbing his head so much that his front legs almost come up off the ground. I call it his sexy dance

Re: Black beardie :-)

Black beards can also be a sign of pain, it is well known if they are sick, stressed or in pain that blackening of the beard is a direct sign of that. My female was impacted once and while trying to pass it she went jet black.

If it is a constant thing or if you can't find anything direct causes to the issue like something that would be stressing him out I would highly recommend you get a fecal done.
