Suggestions and Advice Needed Please

After working my butt off the last 3 weeks at both jobs for Christmas money and buying everyone's Christmas I have a little left over, plus some Christmas money, so I want to purchase a few snake related items. I'm getting a couple of Christmas totes next week to put my dumerils girls in, and bump most everyone up to bigger and/or better homes. I'd like to get a temp gun and a digital scale that will be capable of weighing my dumerils and my burms (at least for a while) and need some suggestions on what to get and where to get them.

Also, I want to get another snake but I'm pretty undecided about what I want. I have pythons and boas already so I'd like to experience something different. I've had a king in the past and have thought about an abberated (sp?) black and white cali (mine was a black and yellow banded cali). I've also been been looking at some corns, mainly the different morphs. I don't have any experience with them but understand they're easy to keep, have good temperments and personalities and are good eaters. I've also been looking at hoggies for a while but other than care sheets I've read, know next to nothing about them. I've heard mention here and there that there's some little differences between the westerns and the easterns but can't seem to find much info on the differences. Of the 3, I'm leaning more toward a hoggie but want more info on them other than what's on a care sheet. So I'd like to hear other keepers experiences with them and what the differences are.

And if anyone has any other suggestions for a new animal, I'd like to hear those as well. These are just the 3 I've been looking at alot lately.

Thanks for the help and any input is greatly appreciated!

If you aleardy have boa and pythons, then it might the time you put all your experience into another level, try a green python. They are not really that hard to keep well as people think. All you need is some love and research.

Cheers

I say Borneo but that's because I am going to get one when the time is right. There is just something about them that tugs at my heart. My husband says it's because they are the color of Caramel and Chocolate...my 2 fav foods. lol (He could be right!)

I think everything mentioned would be cool, so its a matter of what you want really. If you are trying to stick to a semi-inexpensive snake colubrids are great. This site has some awesome, more unique morphs and species if you want to check it out: www.westernhognose.com (I have been wanting to get a hognose and ratsnake from them when I can afford it). I never knew hognose and rat snakes came in such vibrant colors till finding that site, but I would be sure to research them a bit before purchase because some of those are species different from the typical kind we have native to US.

I'd say get a rat snake(I like their impressive sizes), but if you're interested in a hognose then get a hognose. They are more popular now with more people breeding for morphs so you could easily get hatchling that is eating no problem. If you could, you should try to go to a show near you if there is one and talk to some breeders about them to get the inside scoop.

Re: Suggestions and Advice Needed Please

Only places here that have snakes are Petco and Petsmart with the distance to the nearest small expo being more than I care to drive at this time (3 plus hrs one way).

Still not quite sure what I'll get or if I'll get another animal. They boyfriend has showed interest in making a rack and has told me I can't have any more animals until we do something about our lack of space issue because we have tubs everywhere in our room and we have no room lol. I told him if I get a little snake it wouldn't be expensive (corn/king) and it wouldn't take up hardly any room at all for a while. I have the perfect little cage I can keep one in on my computer desk so I can watch it

I'll probably wind up getting either a corn or king, which ever one I see that appeals to me first lol. I still want a hoggie but the morph I really want isn't inexpensive so that one will probably be considered a later purchase.

A gtp is in both our want lists, but not at this time. Same thing with a blood, and carpet, and quite a few more of our slithering friends We're mainly waiting to move before we get any more of the bigger animals.

Re: Suggestions and Advice Needed Please

Well, like I've said a couple times before, I have become a huge fan of the Nuevo Leon kingsnake, for a variety of reasons. They're super sweet and docile, come in several stunning patterns and color combinations, stay small (~ 3 ft.), eat well, and require very simple husbandry. I can't stress enough what an amazing snake they make for a young and/or novice keeper (not that this applies to you!). While you're not likely to find one at your local pet emporium, they are readily available from some very reputable breeders on the internet. Let me know if you have any questions, and best of luck with the new addition.
