The one that started it all....
I thought it would be fun to have a thread where all of us who have multiple snakes (or big collections....or just a few) can show off their first snake. There's always a soft spot for the first one, and I still have my very first snake and love him dearly.
Saleen is a male normal BP. I bought him 7 years ago from a pet store (before I knew about expos and breeders, silly me). He is a sweet snake, and has grown A LOT over the years. He's still my couch buddy, and a great animal that I will always love and thank for being my introduction to the herping hobby.
Here he is tonight on my lap:

Re: The one that started it all....
What a great thread idea!!
Here is my first. Jupiter when I got her:
As she started to grow:
peek-a-boo!
getting bigger:
as an adult:
her enclosure:
right before I gave her away, at 6yrs old and almost 6ft long:
Why did I give her away? Because she bit me almost every day for 6 years no matter what I tried. She just had a mean streak I suppose... I got her specifically because I was afraid of snakes. And I got past that with her. But after 6yrs of not really enjoying her since she bit me and everyone else who tried to handle her, I gave her to someone who wanted to breed her and that was it. But I still look back on her kindly.

My dearly departed Xena, the little brown snake that lived 2 years longer than her life expectancy... I still miss her.

No pics of my old garter snakes I had as a kid( the pics are on slides) but once my wife said go we bought a few. Skittles was #1. She's the best tempered snake ever.

Re: The one that started it all....
I agree! What a great idea for a thread! This is my eastern garter Seeley...who I thought was Selena at the time that I found him...lol. He was just a little scrub when I found him stuck in a spider web in my basement last November (2010). He's actually not much bigger now...he's only about a foot and a half and his head is about the size of my finger nail. But he made me fall in love with garters...

Re: The one that started it all....
I started with 2 snakes, got them both from a breeder when I was between 3 and 5... never can remember.
Normal ball python male
Normal reticulated python male (yeah.... it was sold to my parents as a bull snake and they didn't know any better at the time... We kept it for about 10 years)

Re: The one that started it all....
Here is Siegfried, My Male Ball Python. I've had him since 2004, and he has just been the sweetest snake to own I got him from the adoption coordinator of our local Herp Society, along with a Female Ball, who was the exact opposite, temperament wise, of Siegfried. I no longer have that Female (She went towards the purchase of my BRB) but Siegfried is here to stay.
