My First King

This is my first snake other than a python or boa lol. I saw it at a pet store when i went to buy feeders for my boa and went back today, 5 days later hoping it was still there. After some wheeling and dealing I brought her/him back to work with me. Been researching the different colors and the best i can come up with is that it is the "bannana" color?

If anyone can help me out, please do.

Thanks

Re: My First King

Congrats on your new little pick up! California king snakes are wonderful What you picked up is usually referred to as a "high white" cali king snake. It's not a banana king snake because if it were it would be more brown and with yellow in it.

Re: My First King

Cute but a biter.... at least at this point, he got me good a few minutes ago, wouldn't let go till i put him down.

He should relax after i get him home and leave him alone a few days, at least i hope so. Yikes.

woo a real kingsnake that lives up to their reps unlike most wannabe kings that are turning into softies and not trying to take over the world.

Is a cracker of a high white you got very nice

Nice Cali king. Mines an evil so and so and bites every single time he's handled. All part of the cali king charm though

Re: My First King

Our Goins king has bit my son but we used a dab of whiskey to get him to let go and that was the last time he was aggresive. He is by far our most active snake. At dusk he moves his substrate all over his viv.
Your looks awsome. Enjoy. The attitude comes with the breed.

My MBK used to do that! I would wake up and look in his tank and ask him what he's doing. He'd slither over to the glass and just stare at me. Oh how I miss him, he was gentle and never bit. He only musked my bro's girlfriend once.

Have fun with him they are really funny snakes.

Re: My First King

Wow he is a good eater. I thought for a minute that fuzzy would be too big, took him quite a while to get it down but he was determined. I moved him to a bigger enclosure also. He was in a 10, got him a 20 gallon. I couldn't decide on wattage to keep that small of an enclosure in the 80's on the warm side the shop owner suggested a day blue 100 watt and even though i questioned this I bought one. Sure enough it put that side up into the high 80's almost 90's. I turned it off and am relying on the UTH at the moment. Does anyone have suggestions on wattage for a 20 gallon for the low 80's? Humidity does not seem to be a problem.

Glad he ate well, always feels good

If it's a 20 gal tall I would suggest to use a 75 watt intense basking spot light by exo terra. should get you around the low 80's if you have the top uncovered.

If its a 20 gal long I would suggest to use a 50 watt intense basking spot light by exo terra. Should get you around the low 80's if you have the top uncovered.

I have learned this through trial and error when I had a 20 gal tall set up for a ball python.
