Hello everyone...
I'm Marnie..and I'm new to this forum...
I am currently the owner of two female T.s.sirtalis...or eastern garters, Cee Cee and Selena. Cee Cee is my big girl...almost 3 feet long...and Selena is my little one, only about a foot and a half.
I have been thinking about buying a cornsnake..but I don't know much about caring for them. A friend of mine from another forum told me about this forum and that I could meet some people who could give me some info on cornsnakes...
Look forward to getting to know everyone!

Most of us have corn snakes, including me.
Always happy to add to the family.

Re: Hello everyone...
Welcome! We'd love to see photos of your garter snakes Corn snakes are also great pets- like it's been said before me, lots of us have had them at some point or another. I got a corn snake as my first pet back when I was 15. I'm sure you'll find all the answers to your questions here. See ya around!

Re: Hello everyone...
Okay...just warning you...my camera sucks!
But I will attach a few pics of the girls...
My main question would be...is there anything different involved in caring for a cornsnake as compared to a garter...in terms of viv, temp, humidity, feeding, etc.?

Re: Hello everyone...
I would say corns just get bigger. There's some other minor changes in husbandry but TBH I would say corns have easier husbandry than thams.
Nice easterns, they are one of my favorite thamnophis.

Re: Hello everyone...
North American colubrids are very hardy snakes.
I had no clue back when I got my corn, it was a spur of the moment decision standing in PETCO, and we did just fine.
Now the darn thing is almost 4 feet long and eats small rats.

Re: Hello everyone...
Okay...big does not bother me at all...I love big snakes...love boas, pythons...Having to feed a snake a live rodent would not sit well with me. My girls live off fish, worms, and frozen pinkies. Can cornsnakes live on frozen rodents? What differences in husbandry are we talking about? Is there a caresheet? What about temperment? They seem very friendly...

caresheets all over, every corn I've handled has been awesome. walked around for about 15 minutes with a snow wrapped around my hand while the owner cleaned its tub yesterday.

Re: Hello everyone...
Temperament wise theyre usually pretty docile but they're very active when being handled.. but every snake is different. My corn is skittish and defensive, but its just cute
