Shedding question

So Khuno has gone through his first shed with me (actually his 3rd). All seemed to go well, the whole thing came off no problems at all.

Here's the thing though, (Khuno is a blizzard corn hatched in june) there is now a small dark spot (almost like a freckle) on him, where the was nothing but pink before??

is this ok??

Re: Shedding question

here's the best I could do for pics. It is actually a little darker in person than in the pics, but not much. It's like a light freckle, but the texture of the skin seems a little different from the rest of him too.

Re: Shedding question

Kind of looks like a light burn. It's hard to tell for sure. Do you have a heat lamp?

Re: Shedding question

No, no lights at all.

Khuno lives in a tub on my rack with UTH linked to a riostat right now, the bottom of his tub reads between 81-85f at the hot side and the cool side of his tub reads 70-74. I have never taken him outside except his trip home, which he was kept in his tub for.

This spot was not there before sept 11 when he shed. after the shed, it was there.

Re: Shedding question

Maybe a bruise or a organ. I am just guessing now. I do remember Wayne talking about being able to see organ or food or something like that on one of his snows or albino. Can't remember for sure. I would PM him and ask him.

Re: Shedding question

No need to PM... It looks like ghost pigments, like the other spots.

However it does NOT look like any sort of injury.

I knew Wayne would know.

Re: Shedding question

Absolutely nothing to worry about. There are very few (Maybe 1, 2??) Gene combinations for a perfectly white corn; pretty much all of the near-pure white ones will still have pigmentation of some kind, and their coloration can change drastically over the course of one shed. Based on how young he is, I'd wager that it is simply pigmentation coming in, as Wayne said...Just wait, he should start getting yellow on his head and neck soon...that'll be REALLY cool

Re: Shedding question

Awesome, I'm glad it's nothing serious! He may or may not get the yellow, his mamma had it, his daddy didn't (pure sparkling white) I think he'll be beautiful, either way!!

How long till he starts to lose that pinkish tint and start going more white?? Anybody know??

No real way of telling, may as well try to predict when a kid'll hit puberty...if the breeder documented about when mom and dad began undergoing severe color change, that may give you an idea though

And I actually re-read about Blizzard, if he is really blizzard he will most likely never get the yellow. Blizzard is a combination of Charcoal (Anery type B) and Amelanistic; Charcoal eliminates yellow from the animal as well. Snows are a combination of Anery type A with Amelanistic.

That being the case, if you say the momma had yellow on her, it could be that she was a visual Snow (Amel and Anery A), and dad a Blizzard (Amel and Anery B), and if each were heterozygous for the other (Mom as Amel and Anery A het for Anery B and Dad as Amel and Anery B het for Anery A), then he could be either a snow or a blizzard or perhaps a Super (For lack of a better term) Blizzard; a Blizzard who is also Anery A. This is really only important to know for sure if you intend to breed.

No matter how you slice it, your little guy is CERTAINLY gonna be beautiful, he already looks nice; I can't wait to see how he grows

Hopefully that all made sense! Feel free to PM me with any questions if you have them, so I don't derail the thread
