Hi I'm new to this site but I have had a ball python for about 15 years and he has just started hissing at me when I try to pick him up. He bit me about a week ago and this has only happened once before when my son teased him. Any ideas why the change in behavior. I have been feeding him regularly and nothing has changed other than his attitude.
Welcome to the forums.
His care hasn't changed in 15 years, but have his environment? heavier foot traffic, animals running around, did the terrarium move in the house?
I've heard of grumpy older snake syndrome ( nothing official. ) supposedly some snakes get a bit more jumpy as they age. Could be sight loss or other body systems not functioning like they used to. Just what I have heard. Not experienced myself and I would check everything else and a possible vet visit before I chalked it up to old age.
